Temptation
Ok....I have dedicated myself to dealing with my debt and learning to be frugal. I went a few days without shopping or spending money. So....yesterday morning, I wake up and I am TEMPTED with the idea of going to buy breakfast. Now, I am a nightshifter and never get breakfast. I eat dinner at that time. I was off so I was in reverse. I wanted breakfast and I almost had to beat myself up to keep from going and buying breakfast. The temptation is bad cause I NEVER buy breakfast!!! Where did that come from??????? I finally made breakfast and made everyone get up, clean up and eat breakfast and then I had to rest. I was really going through a tough battle.

Has anyone had crazy temptations after finally making your mind up about facing your debt???

Are you giving yourself enough "play" money? I only find I get temptations like that when I try to tighten the belt too much.

Yes I get that way sometimes, but I keep thinking about all of the money I will have if I don't have to make my credit card payment and that helps me keep my focus. You did great!

THE hardest thing has been breaking hubby of buying fast food for breakfast, lunch, snacks, etc.! I keep all sorts of stuff around for him to take to work and he is doing better.
He is notorious for saying he his hungry and wants to stop at a fast food restaurant almost as soon as we pull out of the driveway. I tell him to just pull back in the driveway and we will go inside and fix him something to eat.
He is doing MUCH better lately. I think it helps that he sees we are making great progress on getting out of debt. The credit cards are paid off, the hospital is almost paid off, we have knocked 8 years off of our 30 year mortgage in 2 years, etc.
It is HARD! You WILL fall off the wagon! Just pick yourself up and go on. Sometimes analyzing WHAT you did, WHEN you did it, WHY you did it, etc. can help you keep from doing it again.
Keep your chin up and move forward!Mary

I always have the temptation to stop for breakfast. I constantly pass a diner that has a sign up for breakfast, two pancakes, two eggs, sausage, toast for $3.00. Breakfast is my favorite food to eat out. I always tell myself you have everything to make that breakfast at home.
It can be frustrating when you have a goal but all of a sudden you start jonsing for something. If you can, try to allow yourself some mad money. That way you can treat yourself from time to time.
One of the first suggestions I used when I first started visiting this site is this. Shop your own home. You would be surprised what you find in a closet or drawer that you had completely forgotten about. It helps me to realize how much I already have, and helps fulfill some need for something "new".

I've mentioned it here before but I have a little book I keep in my purse where I write down what I want. I can't ever buy it unless its been in the book a couple of weeks. 9 times out of 10, writing it in the book takes care of the temptation and I don't want the THING as much as I want my debts paid and money in the bank.
We used to go out to dinner 3 times a week. Now, the ONLY time we go out is for breakfast once a month. Breakfast IS way less expensive then going out for dinner!

I am just starting so I don't have any mad money budgeted yet. I just know that the temptation has hit me but I feel better that I didn't give in.
I like the book idea. I have a small notebook that I can use for that temptation. Thanks for the idea.
I will budget to treat myself to breakfast when I accomplish something. I don't deserve a treat yet.Step 1 $207/1500

Step 4
Step 5 1 child in college graduates 12/12

I know a few others like this as well...ahem bf
He mocks me when I carry a re-useable groc bag with us to the car, complete with snacks (fruit, granola bars, chips, cookies, crackers - sometime PB sammies) and drinks from home 'just in case'. Do you know how many times that bag has come back home empty? LOL
More importantly do you know how much $ that has saved us in the long run having thawed food for dinner, eating junk/fast food while out b/c we were 'starving' and then returning home to throw out food that we've defrosted? I'm hell bent on breaking that cycle!
Good for you for sticking to your guns and not giving in....you do deserve to treat yourself once in a while in order to not feel deprived.
