i grew up with my nan doing A LOT of christmas but my dh likes a "tasteful display" ...sigh ...luckily im trying to switch to led so we are low on outdoor lights. i hang one large flashing twinkling snowflake out front where the house makes its /\ and usually we have red lanterns hanging that i fill with lights and shiny glass vintage ornaments and pinecones.

we will have a tree about 8.75 ft cause our ceiling is 9ft and dh and ds like to get the most for the money LMAO

ill put up a wreath on the front door inside and out, and probably one in the dining room window, ornaments on ribbon hanging from the curtain rods, sometimes old cd hang to for a little sparkle and set of small glittery trees will go somewhere and a dish of something sparkly on the table. and stockings somewhere i think i usually do the shelves in living room or the windowsill we will see.
then paper snowflakes hanging from the ceiling in the dining room

that's probably it, we will make a "snowstorm" with dental floss and white cirlces to hang this year plus any crafts the kids make.

i like to keep it simple and easy to pack away or house is really tiny and a little bit goes a long way

When my cats were young and fiesty and we were broke I used to put fake gifts under the tree all the time. I bought a pack of asst. cards (blank) and taped them around the doorways.
We bought those cheap satin balls and hung them outside. I used to stuff the bottoms of the stocking w/ wrapping paper so it required less to fill them. WE would put out photos of the cats and dogs in hats and antlers. A globe glass w/ cheap lights looks great w/ marbles or tissue paper. As you get nicer stuff you may want to lose the cheaper stuff. We decorated pinecones in glitter too.
Also ask for a childhood treasure from both sides of the family. I have grandmas santa in a rocker, other grandmas plush santa,2 of mom plastic (now vintage) santa ornaments.
We now have stuffed animals,5 ceramic santas,12 mangers. We even decorate the windows w/ clings and the doorknobs w/ bells. The Salvation Army has stuff year round lots of it new.

Tracy-I'm working on it. In my defense i dumped 1/2 of it at the S.A. last fall. I keep it to 1 gorilla shelving unit and a stackable for the ornaments for the most part. Stuff. Such an awful sounding word.LOL.

I have definitely wrapped empty boxes or game boxes with paper for decorations under the tree! We don't do gifts and don't have children yet, so it looks empty otherwise.

My kids are "grown" 17 and 19. Money doesn't take up much room, nor do gift cards. So I may be right back to empty boxes or wrapping a small gift in multiple boxes. Maybe the pets would appreciate some wrapped gifts. lol.

I love to decorate for Christmas Dh took the bins out a couple wks ago but I was busy with other stuff. I finally got in the mood last night and took out my big ceramic lited christmas tree that my sister made for us when we were first married. It's on the credenza now below my huge wreath that I need to decorate with greenery and white pointsettias. Under the credenza is a bowl of antique ornaments. I put out candles and my snowman lamp and my snowglobe that she got me too! I put up some small decorations on the walls too. I decorate the top of my kitchen cabinets with greenery and picks. I have a basket of fake pointsettias by the tv cabinet. a basket of pinecones under the coffee table. Snowman tins one the other side of the tv. A bunch of candles on the tv cabinet too. The Christmas tree will be in the corner of the room by a window probably be up and decorated this weekend when dh gets back home. Ther manger will be under the treee. I put gold star garland on a long shelf above our front door. We decorated the porch with garland and white lights and I have a wreath with led colored lights on the porch.

Haha yeah, I'm due in March. The pets do have many presents to wrap under the tree.

here' a few of my simple Christmas...using norfolk island pine becomes a house plant after holiday, live holly gets trashed, rosemary tree will stay inside until summer....simple, easy clean up and decorating takes little time.

I decorate primarily for my granddaughters (ages 3 and 7).
Outside, I put white lights on the bushes and set up a lighted train that I found on sale a couple of years ago (regular price $75 - I got it for $18!)
Inside, I put up a tree, a few lighted garlands, decorate the mantle and top of the piano, and hang ornaments from the chandelier in the dining room.
I also decorate the girls' room - a small tree (about 1 foot high) and a few lights along the top of the window.
I haven't started yet for this year, but I think I'll start tomorrow.

I have the standard tree, garland, and stockings, but my new favorite decoration is a red and white dishtowel in my kitchen hanging on the oven handle. I just tied a bow on it and safety pinned a silk poinsettia in the middle! I already had everything, so this was free to me :-) Makes me smile whenever I walk by!

I don't decorate and haven't for 10 years. DH and I both work Christmas. If we do have it off, we're never off together for it. So, it's just not worth the hullabaloo to put up our decos.

Christmas just makes me feel meh...
