coworker and $190
My coworker said that her 4 year old daughter is "into American girl" doll and is insisting on getting some American girl accessories and bed that costs $190. I am looking at her now while she is online purchasing this. $190!!! There she goes.......credit card!!!!!
I am so glad that I have come to my senses. I guess she doesn't mind the debt.
Can you believe that??? $190!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that's not including the other gifts she is getting.Step 1 $207/1500
Step 2 Student loan $160.00 monthly
Schewels paid
Step 3 $252/$15000
Step 4
Step 5 1 child in college graduates 12/12
2 child $50.00
Step 6 $70,761/$93,000
Step 7 Build wealth & give.

Some people have the money.
Some people THINK they have the money.
I call this doll a *designer doll *. I have a niece who has one. So when Christmas and her birthday ( Dec 26 ) get here, I try to make her doll something too. Last year, it was matching scarfs and hats for her and the doll. I also have made some ponchos for this size doll. I have 2 genaric same size ones here, that I use for *models* thanks to a garage sale find.--------My signature--------

As the above poster says some people have the $. Some don't. I wouldn't assume she is going into debt though because she used a CC. I use my CC a lot and am debt free.
I wouldn't buy a 190 doll for a 4 year old though personally.~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

The ironic part is target sells clothes for this doll now at about 1/2 price. I gave my Amer. Girl stuff away when my kid was done. Did you tell her about freecycle??

When I was little my mom made me a doll bed out of the wooden oval fruit baskets, I think it cost her $10.00 total for everything even the baby doll in it!

If you're going to give a 4 year old a $190 toy you may as well take the cash and light it on fire. Sheesh.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I just don't get it.... As one of the two ADULTS in charge of finances at our home, I can't ever remember either one of us giving in to any "insisting" from a 4-year old in our care!
Good grief! I haven't spent $190 on my own clothing and accessories this year.

Come on now. We all know it's not about the kid. Impress me,impress me. A cousin or a friends kid has one or something. Guilt over working? Our kids had everything. They just had it at 50% or more off. They didn't know the difference and as teenagers they remember very few of the toys.

we get those american girl catalogs ( how they got my name i do not know) 190 is cheap compared to some of the stuff you can buy for those dolls! i mean the dolls are at least $90 you can actually purchase a sideboard for the dolls, yes dining room furniture and wheelchairs in case they get hurt..... honestly im fascinated by the american girl culture its like it takes over your good sense

Not everyone who uses a credit card is accumulating debt. If she wants to give her child an expensive gift that's her choice. I don't understand why anyone else would care or comment on it.
I just spent $600 on a gaming system for my 4 & 5 year old. Plus other gifts.

From the Virgin Islands to Nova Scotia - you may as well buy your own game system and save the airfare!

Been there done that! My dd got her first American girl doll as a gift from her grandpa. He wanted her to have it and be able to pick out the hair, eyes, ect. She loved that doll like you would not believe. She didn't get it though till she was about 7.
Over the years she was interested in the the doll we bought a few outfits from the catalog.. Two time we bought my dd an outfit and the one to match the doll. One was a dress and one was a halloween outfit that she wore a few years. She even won a few contests in it. The outfit was a hippy. The matching doll is what took her odds over the top. Not that any of that is worth going into debt over.
My neice who is a few years older than my dd sent her some bedroom furniture after she was done with her doll.
We have my dd's doll stored in the attic. We did find one at Goodwill once for 3.00 That was a deal for sure.Married 22 years to Mark
