hairstylist and reduced visits
I used to get my hair done every week. I changed it to every 2 weeks. Now I want to get my hair done every 5-6 weeks because I put a relaxer in my hair and it must be done by a professional. So, how do I tell my hairstylist of 10 years that I can only afford to come for the relaxer? I go every other Tuesday like clockwork. I haven't been in a month and will be making an appt to go for the relaxer next week. I want to just make my appt like usual and then cancel the day before but I can't do that to her. How do I get up the nerve to tell her I can't afford every 2 weeks??
Thank you!

With the economy the way it is, I am sure your hairstylist has heard it all by now. Just say, sorry, I need to make some changes to my routine.
I don't go this route. I can't afford to. My hair is so long I sit on it. If I want near a hairstylist, they would think big $$$.--------My signature--------

I am a hairstylist, and believe me....i totally understand. Hairdressers (some) may be upset, but just tell her it's the financial aspect and not something she has done...We are in the same boat as everyone else...I HATE it when people have an appt. with me and then just never show up...i understand forgetfulness and emergencies, but there are times I know people just don't want to call, it's rude and hurts my pocketbook...just let me know , even if you don't want to come back...anyway, she will understand...Good luck...

It's your money. Just explain that you are trying to save money. You aren't cancelling on her permanently.

As a hairstylist I can say I have had clients need to reduce their visits over the last year. I guarantee your stylist won't think a thing of it. I'd much rather someone tell me that let me wonder if something is wrong.
In fact if we have specials ( the owner comps them) I know which clients to give notification to because I know they are really wanting to come but still looking for a little price break. I've even called one that has expressed the financial issue if I need a model for a class. We both win!

I think she would understand.
If you make an appt then not show up or cancel the day before the chances of that spot being filled is very limited. By letting her know you have to cut back due to economic reasons means she can have advanced warning so she can adjust HER budget accordingly too.

Definately let her know in advance, canceling the day before is just plain rude. I would hate to make an appointment for work with someone in advance and they cancel with short notice and then I have to scramble to fill the time slot.

I'm a hairstylist too! I wouldn't be upset at all. With the economy the way it is, we get a lot of clients that are reducing the amount of visits a year. We are still happy to see you when you come in! Just tell her it's a financial thing, she'll understand! It's hard for everyone right now, especially this time of year!

UMMM? Are you friends or is this a professional your hiring? You should never make an appt. and cancel w/o reason but really: would she hang out w/ you if you didn't pay her? This economy has evetyone scrambling and reevaluating.

i am a salon receptionist LOl please dont make an appt and then cancel last minute or god forbid just not show... the stylists are nice people they understand but they could also give that time slot to someone else and when you wait until the last min they've have to turn people away.
i think you should just tell her, she's been your stylist for 10 years you are practically cousins LOLReba

I used to get my hair done every 3 weeks. I haven't seen my stylist in over 6 months =/. Ive been struggling with the same problem and now a friend doing my hair every 4 months!

Just tell her, it would be much more appreciated than if you don't and leave her thinking she may have done something wrong. Everybody knows how tight things are and I am sure she will be sympathetic...

I agree, just tell her it's nothing personal. You just can't financially do it anymore. Honesty. That way she can schedule someone in your now vacant time slots. She will understand.

Thats true ... I feel bad because she is a family friend but I guess its better to be honest than to leave her thinking she did something wrong!
