Belts for small children?
I'm looking for a belt for my 3 yr old son. By the time he fits into the waist of pants, the legs are almost too short. I haven't spotted any in the local stores. I did find a brand online called "myself belts" which fasten with velcro, but they cost about 15 bucks, plus shipping. Do you think this would be worth it, if he can get more use out of pants? Any other ideas?

I got my boys their belts at Walmart. They were in packages of 2 and around $5-7. I would have never paid $15 + for kids belts. I don't even pay that now that they are older.

I remember my younger brother wearing suspenders when he was a toddler (back in the late 50's), but I bet belts and suspenders are NOT recommended for use with young children these days for safety reasons. Just like they don't have string ties in hoodies anymore. You could add elastic to the back of his pants, and let it out as needed.

Having been a preschool teacher, pants a child can do an undo on their own is important especially for "need to go quick" restroom trips that preschoolers are famous for.
So what ever belt you decide on it needs to be easy to do.
When my son was that age I bought a stretch belt and he would just pull down his pants without undoing the belt sice it was elastic.
By the time my daughter was that age they had adjustable waists (the elastic inside adjust with a button). We still buy these today.

My son is super skinny and the majority of pants that we find that work lengthwise, end up falling down around his ankles.
We watch for when Children's Place has their really good sales and combine it with their coupons and we get Wesley's jeans there. Their jeans have an adjustable waistband that works perfectly for Wesley.
Also, with as slowly as Wesley grows, he wears them forever. He wore the 18 month jeans from the time he hit about 18 months until this year. They hold up really well. We ended up paying a little more out of pocket initially than we would have liked, but we had to buy fewer pants for him because of it.McD

What about a small women's belt, one of those braided/woven leather ones? I buy those braided/woven leather ones for my guys because they can use them for longer because there isn't any holes for them to outgrow.

~I have super slim kids too. Baby Gap stuff with the adjustable interior waist straps is fantastic whenever I can find them at thrift shops.
I also made a velcro belt out of denim. It cost about $.25 for the materials to sew it.~~Constance

I look for the sales at Children's Place, too. They carry belts and pants with adjustable waists. My 5yr old son has always been on the skinny side. They also carry slim sizes online but they don't start until size 4.

I love the pants with the adjustable waists. My son is tall and skinny, right now he needs the length of a size 7 pant but there is no way the waist would ever fit him on those. Also, not all pants he wears have belt loops, so the adjustables work great.
If you can't find a belt that's suitable, I'd suggest getting some elastic, and creating your own little adjustment on the inside of the pants. Good luck!

I used a older kids belt and cut it to size ,then punched holes in it.
