I recall being in a grocery store several years back, and seeing a young girl (about 10) come dashing around the corner of the aisle I was in. She didn't see me, because she was too busy huddling herself into a corner behind a display and hurriedly ripping open the packaging on the ink pen she had shoplifted. We're not talking about a fancy-schmancy pen, either - just a pen. Not sure why she wanted it.

Anyway, I was so shocked and immediately ticked off that I walked right up behind her, tapped her on the shoulder, and said (in my best INDIGNANT MOM voice), "DON'T YOU DARE STEAL THAT! SHAME ON YOU!"

She just about jumped right out of her skin! LOL She dropped the pen, stammered out an "I'm sorry", and ran off.

Bet she didn't do it again anytime soon. LOL

The TOTAL lack of manners is what I see that is disturbing. When I am shown or see a kid show manners I make SURE that I compliment not only the parent but the child too.
I agree with you, and I think a big part of the problem is that parents have their hands pretty much tied when it comes to disciplining their children these days AND THE CHILDREN KNOW IT and think it's funny. How can you set limits for your children if you can't enforce them? Children today have little to no limits or accountability for their behavior and that's really scary.

    How's that for morals!

we have in our malls security officers all the time now . the schools are very close walking distance and too much stealing going on. they seem to have more of the officers on long weekend shifts and holidays. sad to see that our small town is getting worse.

My retail corridor had a problem for a while with an entire family stealing and pulling scams. We caught on to them in my store and then read in the paper that at a neighboring store a 'grandmotherly' type lady distracted a woman by admiring her baby while her daughter stole the lady's wallet. They would put stuff in a baby stroller and then sell it at the flea market. My daughter went to camp with one of the children and not only did I point out the child to my daughter I told her to keep an eye on her stuff and to tell her friends to as well. Luckily, I saw in the paper one person in the family went to jail for scamming an elderly person. This was two different families, I don't know if they were friends or not, but a few iothers were arrested and we haven't really seen them in a while. If anyone ever watched that show "The Riches" it's true, there really are families like that.

We have security guards in ours and they hire off duty police (like my husband!) to pick up extra shifts and hours.

    Default same thought

i agree. Stealing is a crime. Hm, I wondered if she' ll be laughing if she was proscuted for stealing and sentenced to jail.Hm,I think she'll be in TEARS.I would never shoplift nor steal anything.

THe cvs needs to proscute her. Then, maybe she won't think it's,cool anymore.
