Not only plastic bags, but many groceries are open 24 hours now, and if they close they still leave the lights on. The poor potatoes don't have a chance.
If I see green on the potatoes I just don't buy them. We prefer the red skinned ones anyway.Use it up, Wear it out,
Make it do, Or do without. ~unknown

I am always yelling at the kids for leaving the lights on in the walk in pantry. I guess now I have 1 more reason. I hadn't thoght about 24 hr. stores and potatoes. How do you cover them and not have them mildew?? Or sprout. I read dick gregory years ago and he stored root crops in soil in his root cellar. I guess I would microwave the soil if I were to do that.

I was always told to stay away from the green potatoes. I was told that they were old and were going bad. I wonder if it is from the chemicals sprayed on them and the exposure to sunlight.

It seems the quality of potatoes here has really gone down hill. Whether it is spots, being green or just rotten, it is hard to find good potatoes. That is why we buy rice when our homegrown potatoes are gone.

I always joke with whomever I am with when we got into the 24 hour grocery stores after 9-10pm. I point and whisper in a loud shushing tone: "Shhhh! The potatoes are sleeeeeeeping!" People, my present company included, always think I'm nuts and have lost it each time I do that. LOL
Most 24 hour stores tuck in all their taters for the night - at least the ones here
