Default I Wonder if Some People Thought I was Nuts....

for passing out pencils to random people.......a little background..
After last years Christmas,I found a deal on pencils that had the message "Jesus is the Reason for the Season" on it & I bought 6 dozen of them (should have bought more). Anyway, I had become weary of all of the commercialization of this wonderful season and I bought the pencils with the intention of passing them out to help keep people focused on the real reason as to why we celebrate Christmas in the first place.
In 3 days all 6 dozen pencils were given away...that's 72 people...I was having so much fun doing this, that I couldn't believe that I had reached 72 people
The reactions were shock,surprise,smiles,"amens",....some even expressed their relief that it was okay to say 'Merry Christmas"....I got one grump though...but he still said "thank you"

No nuts in my eyes. I want to know why we don't say, "happy birthday Jesus". HE is the reason for the season. You may find yourself passing out pencils again next year.

Nothing nuts about it. Sounds like it was appreciated

Job well done! People do get caught up all the commercial mumble jumble garbage for Christmas. Jesus is the reason for this day. Spend time celebrating him and time with your family and friends.

I think it was great. Good for you for spreading your joy and sharing something important to you.

But I'm going to risk it and remind everyone that Jesus is the reason for the reason for you.
Roman pagans had been celebrating Christmas long before Christians.
In the effort by Christians to reach out to the pagans, they adopted their holiday. The Christians modified the day by declaring the day to be the birth of Christ.

The Christians never actually knew the birth of Christ, and we still don’t know the exact day.The New Testament gives no date or year for Jesus’ birth. But we have figured out that it is in the middle of spring sometime. From the middle of March to June has been the estimate from many calculations.

And no I am not pagan, just saying

Were teaching the kids that we are celebrating "Baby Jesus" birthday. My DS thought all the fuss was for him his b-day is the 20th. He is sadly mistaken!

Nice idea, however, I echo Ann K's concern. Where were you handing these out? At church...no problem. But, on the street? In a store? Just thinking... Still, as I said, nice idea.

We celebrate Christmas because winter is a long, dreary time and all cultures and religions have developed a winter holiday to help stave off the winter depression.

Not that I have a problem with giving Jesus a good celebratory day now and then

I've got no beef with people who say Merry Christmas.

I have a huge problem with people who insist that everyone else say Merry Christmas, especially on a day like today.

I'm tempted to get something to pass out that says, "Axial tilt is the reason for the season."
