Sorry, but there's no way they didn't know she was dead, unless they are intellectually impaired in some way. Our neighbor one floor below passed away and no one realized for 3 or 4 days. Her son stopped by once a week for a welfare check, and found her dead. When they were removing her body the stench was awful, and it was only a few of days she'd been dead.

There is no way that someone could have been in that house with the woman dead for 8 months and not know that there was something rotting.

    On another note though ......
    Can SSchecks go direct deposit?
If so, and a family member was on the checking account as joint or power of attorney, and the checks were written to pay the house bills, I wonder where that falls in the criminal category as compared to signing the checks and cashing them? I'm not saying it's not a crime, the whole thing is a twisted mess, I'm just wondering if it went down like that do the technicalities make any difference legally?
They do get direct deposited, but it's a crime to even receive the money if you aren't entitled to it. And dead people aren't entitled to SS, nor are their survivors. Widows/widowers/surviving children are entitled to a different benefit, not the deceased's benefit.

it took a week of me complaining about the smell to get authorities here to believe me that something was bad at the neighbors house. course he was only dead a week when i began complaining, nothing near what this story says...
