My house is freezing -- NOW !!!
UGH -- I am so mad I can spit nails!
I have lived in this condo since 1998, and in all that time, I think I have only had to 'bump the heat' a handful of times. Usually my condo is warm... 72 year-round if I never have to turn on the heat (we live on the ground level near the water heater).
The maintenance people came through all the units last week checking the heat, and of course NOW my heat isn't working properly! I put my hand over the register, it IS warm, but it's downright COLD in here.
I kicked the heat up to 74 because it had gotten chilly in here... a few hours later, I check because it's still cold.
I am just ticked off because the heat tanked AFTER they were 'fixing' it...
I have my door snake, looks as if I will have to hit the hardware store tomorrow for window plastic. Not much more I can do for the slider since we use it as our entry.
Diva even tried to cram herself in to a pair of feety-jammies... walked out of her room looking something like a cheese curl and decided she's gotten too tall for them
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

How miserable for you - and cold weather coming your way again -ugh. Can't the maintenance people come back soon? Is anyone else having the same problem?
Take care and let us know what happens.Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

Wow, indoor temperature certainly is a different strokes for different folks thing. We keep our house around 63°F and our bedroom in the mid- to upper-50's. We broke a record low last week with -9°F, but it's a nice "balmy" 28°F (windchill 22°) this morning (a more normal temperature for this time of the year).
We didn't turn our whole-house furnace on until last week for those few days the temperatures were below Zero with 35-mph wind. We're back to using the Infrared heater this week.

-6 here right now! 72 degrees right now would be a heat wave!! But it is awful when your heater isn't working properly, or the way it was before. I would let the maintenance staff know what happened.

Got my new space heater from Walmart today. $42. of Honeywell happiness. Cool to the touch, specific heat temp setting, tipover shut off, energy efficient, small, quiet. Thought iot was time because my spaceheater from last year was arcing. Yikes. (S.A. special $8.)
Highly recommend. Grandpa and brother are getting 1 for xmas too.

Wow, try to stay warm! I hope it gets fixed soon.
We just had our furnace serviced last night for the first time since we moved in 2 years ago. I waited for the landlord to do it last year, and it never happened, so I took it upon myself to do it this time.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE....
Our house is so warm now that we could almost run around in shorts - no kidding. And that's with the thermostat at 68. It's going down to 66 today, and we'll see how that does.
I don't think that furnace had been cleaned or serviced since it was installed in 1993. There were marbles, small toys, a pencil and LOTS of dust and dirt in there when the tech pulled it apart. He pulled the floor cage (the fan & motor) out of it, and started cleaning it, then turned the darn thing on and blew a major dust cloud out...right into my face. (Been sneezing and coughing the stuff out of my nose ever since.)
But for $75, my furnace is clean, quiet (it was loud before, due to a piece of plastic stuck in the fins of the blower the threw it off balance), and EFFICIENT. I'm pretty amazed that the only thing wrong with it was plain old dirt and dust!
Get those furnaces serviced, folks! It may be the best, cheapest way of keeping your heat bills down!

thank you. My DH vaccumns our out every year and changes the filter 2x a year (our filter is expensive) and also we wash our permanent dehumidifier 1x a year. It is the kind that is built right on to the furnace.

I am sitting here all bundled up. Not freezing but I know I could be warmer. The heater sounds really good right about now. Will think about getting one next week. The last two winters have been so warm and also the only two winters that I have been trying to be frugal with the energy bill.

Lady V - no change in your heat yet? Have you called the maintenance men? You deserve to be warm - FMS is bad enough under good weather conditions. Take care.

Can you hang a heavier fabric blanket over the doorway since its sliding windows? Kinda stops the cold from creeping 'right on in' as fast.
BF bought a heater for me, a humidifier/heater in one and you can have the option of using one, the other or both at once. He lives in a small apt and it's on the top floor of the bldg. Most people below us have their heat cranked so it's not that bad in here (heat rises) but since the temps have dropped...I'm freezing! And this is after I've layered up and put on blankies. Then I turn on the space heater. It definitely does the job but the kicker is he has baseboard heating which he refuses to use. AND this cold snap we had from the west - this is how cold it is normally come Jan/Feb. I'll be afraid to visit then!
Bundle up and stay warm! Sending you warm thoughts!2012: The Year Of The Purge!
