It's been an interesting ride - to say the least!
A few years ago I posted how I didn't know how we would keep food in our mouths, no income, no savings etc.
Then the Old Man landed a job with a decent wage.
Since he started there in April 2007, he's been promoted and given a raise. He was going to be fast-tracked for another promotion but the inner-office has other plans for him now...
They want to make him a manager!
We don't know if he will get it, but he just had his review and his manager has offered his name up for the new position. He would split his day between the office and the road, but won't have to be out installing in -10 wind-chills or 100 degree heat anymore.
It's a salary job. The amount of hours he puts in during his 4 days on depends on the crew under him. He has to be there for 6am and can't leave until his last guy comes in for the night. I remember nights when he first started installing he walked in at 1am on a few occasions. His manager had come out to help him get finished earlier because he was given some really big jobs.
When he told me last night, I was excited for him. To be recommended for the job means he's doing something right. He isn't sure what it pays. He also has no clue what he gets paid now
His checks are direct deposited and he doesn't care how much he gets as long as he is paid for the hours he worked, the lights are on and there is something on his plate nightly. (I do the finances, he said he's too tired to care anymore)
I asked him how much he would be making if he got it... he shrugged.
We may not be filthy rich or dirt poor, but we are 'doing'... and that works for us.
He called me today to see how I feel about him taking it if it's given to him. I told him if he wants to take it because it gets him out of the field, and it's something he wants... then to go for it, don't make the money a factor. Do it for happiness.
FINALLY!
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

Wow, congratulations! It's so nice to hear of something good happening for someone with their job for a change, it's pretty rare these days.

Your husband sounds like mine...he doesn't even know what days of the month he gets paid (and he doesn't care as long as the money goes into the acct).

The promotion and probably salary increase would be great, but it must be almost as satisfying (or more) to be shown in such a concrete way how much he is valued by his company.
Did they tell him when the decision would be made?Donna

Congratulations that life is going much better. I will say a prayer that your husband gets the job if that is what he wants. The others are right when they say it is nice to hear good news nowadays.

No, they didn't tell him when the decision will be made -- we do know it will be soon though because there are too many people under just 2 managers right now.
(conversation when he came home tonight)
Him: If I get the managers spot, I have to go to Denver for 2 weeks
Me: I'll knit you a scarf
I want to thank everyone for their congrats -- I'll keep you posted!
