It's one of our favorite days of the year - we love winter.
On this, the shortest day of the year, I'll be serving short ribs, short-cut scalloped potatoes, a variety of "short" raw veggies (yeah, I know, that's pushing the "short" thing) and shortcake.

I wouldn't say I celebrate but I love the shortest day of the year. I love winter and long cozy evenings.

The cold earth slept below; Above the cold sky shone; And all around, With a chilling sound, From caves of ice and fields of snow The breath of night like death did flow Beneath the sinking moon.
Solstice Blessings

Winter solstice is an astronomical event that marks the earth's tilt, in the northern hemisphere, at its farthest point from the sun. It is also the first day of the winter season. Solstice is the shortest day and the longest night for those in the northern hemisphere, from here on out the days will get longer and the nights shorter, until we reach the summer solstice in late June.
While there are various cultural and religious interpretations of the event, I simply see it as the end of one solar year and the start of a new one.Use it up, Wear it out,
Make it do, Or do without. ~unknown
You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
You get what you need ~Rolling Stones
