I always loved to decorate for Christmas. But last year didn't put a tree up period or anything else for that matter. This year the kid went to the shed and got out the tree ( pre-lit ) and we stuck it up as is. Just can't get into it. Haven't done anything. Having no money dosen't help any.

I seem to know tons of people IRL who aren't feeling the spirit either. Is it the economy? We finally put up the tree on Saturday. I've got one nativity out and whatever the kids made up and that's it. We had my family's Christmas Sunday and no one seemed into it. Now I hear that the pretty snow we have now will be melted Christmas Eve night by freezing rain. Ack! I'm ready to move on. Oh, and I feel that 'perfect mom' pressure to MaryCarney. I hate it. The whole festivity thing seems to rest on me. I would be happy to go to church on Christmas Eve and call it good.

I am so relieved to hear that I'm not the only one! I use to love Christmas. I would be decorating the day after Thanksgiving and baking the whole month of December. However, this year, I had to force myself to put the tree up and do minimal decorating. I haven't baked the first thing and buying gifts has been a chore this year instead of a joy. We have friends coming over on Christmas Eve for dinner and games, etc. and although I am looking forward to that, I haven't really done the first thing towards planning dinner except to order the Ham. I have to get busy today, I HAVE to! The snow storm has been both a blessing and a curse. I enjoy having the week off from school but it gives me much to much time home with my teenagers!!! LOL! They are driving me crazy!
I think next year we will plan a vacation for the week of Christmas/New Years and get out of town! Somewhere warm perhaps? I would rather just take my kids out shopping and let them pick out what they want then have to try and guess what they want. They are both teens so they would probably be okay with this too!
I love Jesus and trully enjoy the reason for the season. I'm just not into the whole "commercialism" this year. Looking forward to 2010!Live - Laugh - Love

I am having the Christmas Blahs too. I did put up a tree and the kids decorated it, but I have to do that I have a Dec 20 baby and they are both still little. My spirit was deflated when DS told his Great Nana "Mum is Santa silly". Plus Dh has to work and we didnt go home to my parents this year, I thought it would be un kind to leave DH home with the dog. Actually we would have taken the dog.

Last year our retarded cat (sorry- this is truly what he is. He has brain damage from his birth) pee'd on the skirt and was totally upset by the tree. This year we aren't going to stress him out by putting up one. I did decorate the mantle and hang the stockings (anything out of his line of sight is okay). We didn't hang up the lit decorations either.

Wow...hugs to everyone here. I know, I've noticed the "blahs" around me too...somewhat myself too.Maybe its all of the commercialism surrounding it? Last night after I had posted this thread, Dh came home and said "Hey, you guys wanna put up the tree?' I was shocked b/c he's usually the Scrooge of the family lol. So we managed to get the thing up (haven't decorated it yet) and we watched "The Christmas Child" (starring Steven Curtis Chapman).

Tigo, sorry that your cat was so upset by the Christmas decorations last year. I think its kind of you to consider his disposition & decorate accordingly. I've noticed our cat can be very sensitive, occasional overwhelmed by changes. She has gotten better though & has always loved the tree (never tries to climb it or anything). Actually loves sitting under it... guess I better leave it up for awhile so she can enjoy it!

No tree, no decorations, my sister, neices & I agreed not to buy presents for anyone but the little ones and PaPaw. We did buy for our own daughter and grandson though. Have baked a couple of batches of cookies and plan to do another batch today.

It is so GOOD to find out I'm not the only one!!! No matter how hard I try to make Christmas 'perfect' for everyone, it never is, and I always feel that it's somehow my FAULT. This is such a refreshing break from that feeling - maybe I'll move EVERY year at Christmas

You know what I am looking forward to??
Christmas Eve service at church, because this year it's NOT just one more thing on the to-do list, it's actually the only thing we've got planned for the day!

Procrastinating?? I'm not even getting involved! (I DO celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, and all the Christian holidays...)
BUT....DH and I have escaped this year! BWAHAHAHAhahahahahaha!!!

For the first time in our lives (we are both 55 yrs. old and our kids are grown), we have escaped our hometown for the holidays, and we are NOT having 25 people over on Christmas Eve, and then cleaning up
, making new food
, and having 24 people over on Christmas DAY!!!
I have no tree up, no 'decor', no wreath, no presents for each other.
We are just going to sit around Christmas day and sip hm Bailey's Irish Cream in our jammies
, and contemplate the real meaning of Christmas.

Slapped a wreath on the front door. Threw a couple of ornaments on the x-mas ficus tree, and hung a couple of other x-mas decorations around the rooms. Fortunately I got rid of a lot of decorations last year so it was easy to decide what to put up. Was really busy when I decorated, and really not in the mood to do it. Not sure if I will take it down the day after x-mas or after New Years Eve.

I think a ot of the blahs can be attributed to the stores starting Christmas before Halloween, for crying out loud. It has all been too long, and we are made to feel behind when we really aren't.
Not that many years ago, everyone decorated about 2 weeks before Christmas. Christmas music didn't play on the radio until about then, too. This year they started before Thanksgiving.
Everything is push, push, push. One can't even find after Christmas sales anymore, since they are happening NOW! Heck, my money goes for presents, not stocking up like I normally would from the sales.
I really hate to go around saying anything negative about the holidays, though. I used to belong to a religion that didn't celebrate holidays, and believe you me, they really used the negativity they heard from people to prove their point about not celebrating. They actually thought people were jealous of them for not celebrating.
Having been freed from them, my family appreciates everything about the season. I just wish it would start after Thanksgiving.
