Default ok-i think i found ONE thing i like about winter....

i hate winter....i hate the cold...i hate the lack of sunshine, color, wildlife disappearing...blah..blah...blah....

and i know alot of you really like winter....with the changing of the seasons, the snow, the holidays....dh does....(hence the reason we are still in this freezing climate)...lol

so this morning as i was lying snuggled warmly not wanting to get up and start the day i noticed something that i actually do enjoy about the whole thing.....

i love the complete dark silence of it all....the days are shorter meaning the mornings stay darker longer (and i LOVE the dark)....and i can lay here without a single distraction (except what goes on in my own head of course...argh...)...its dark, quiet...none of the world seems to be moving yet...no sun rising flooding the house, no lights blaring, dishes clanging, dh's coffee pot smelling up the house, furnaces humming, cars rushing down the street, trash trucks (and we have 3 that come in the early morning hrs), grass cutting (neighbors get up and out way too early), kids yelling, birds singing..... (hey...that's all fine when its summer out and we 'spose to be up and about)....

but its nice to just be able to slow down and 'stop' for awhile...stop and listen to what you can't hear....

and then...i throw the covers back...peel myself out of the warmth into a 50 degree 'shocker' and head for the thermostat, lightswitches, coffee pot, and on and on and on...

    welcome to a new day....

I think that is why I am hoping that we get snowed in. We live on a busy corner and get silence from the snow.

I can totally relate. I'm off work for 2 weeks and my wife has to work about 6 days of them. HEAVEN! She likes lots of lights on and doesn't "just sit" for more than 5 minutes.

Right now It's dark, it's quiet and the only light on is my computer and the light above the stove....ahhhhh

I also like that colder weather = lower humidity = less frizzy hair.

    sure...come on over.....but hurry....

in the summer its total chaos around here...we live on a dead-end street that ends in a park...one way in/out...(surprising how well used the park is at 2am...hm...)....last year they put in baseball diamonds....now we have giant lights blaring and people yelling till 11pm every summer night... the lady who's back yard backs up to mine on one side babysits (i'm thinking about 100 kids or so)....they start arriving as early as 5 am and then go out to play at 5:07.....(and she makes them stay OUT all day..lol)....the lady on the other side that backs up to my backyard is a dog groomer at her home...and i don't know what she does to the poor animals but they are constantly escaping and running for their lives so i have dogs running through followed by more people yelling as they are chasing them........kids running one way/dogs running the other all day long....then the high school track coach who lives here too decided that the field that we all back up to would be a great place for track practice...so every afternoon there are 25-30 noisy yelling teenagers running in 'circles' out my back kitchen window....

but hey....the sun is shining....it's nice and warm....the grass is green...the trees are full of leaves and shady....the flowers are growing...my garden is...well...my garden is always leaving alot to be desired... ah, but all is well.....

I love how the sun shines and reflects off the snow. I love the bare trunks and branches of the birch trees. I love the soft falling snow and how it makes everything appear so magical. I love long, dark, cozy evenings on the couch enjoying the company of my family cuddled under a quilt watching a great movie. I love the tracks in the snow from deer who have decided to wander by....but I love how when spring decides to arrive and watch nature come back to life.

but I HATE slippery roads and snowfalls so large it takes days to dig out!

I love winter and colder weather. But then I live in Northern California. The 22, 23 degree mornings we had here a couple of weeks ago were a treat, for me anyway, that we don't get that often. My dearest friend got -3 degrees in Reno.

I lived in Washington state and enjoyed the snow for the most part. Scary when I had to drive though. I would love to retire someplace where it snows but I probably won't.

This is a fave of mine, too. From April to October, my hair won't behave at ALL.

But, I do like the snow. Just not driving in it.

THANK YOU SS! I truly needed this today......maybe the winter is getting to me more than I think........made me laugh and I love to laugh! Even made my neighborhood look pretty good......that was even better! Now if we could just get some SUNSHINE. We have been dark, cold and dreary for a week.......and NO SNOW - not a flake! The 'wet cold' gets to me more than 'snow cold'...the people that live in the northern climes will know what I mean!

I was cursing everyone who did not shovel while on my morning walk. Do enjoy the first snow fall, especially when it is dark and you can see the snow fall from the lights. But other than that I am done with snow and am waiting for spring.

Debbie- Exactly! I could not have said it better myself!

I'll add; I love ice storms, not for the driving, but the viewing. When everything gets covered in a sheet of ice and glistens. Magical!
