    Good for you !

We were foster parents for years and had a lot of kids come through out home, adopted one and still have contact with several others and I will be the first to tell you that we quit because the workers got to be "to much to deal with". Now that I said that, I want you to know that we had a wonderful social worker for the first couple of years and it made a HUGE difference in being a foster/adoption family. She was super, nice, honest, and worked with us by actually telling us what was going on. Most of the other workers seem to be cold, unfeeling, and uncaring, so a good social worker is a God send to a foster/adoptive family, and I wish you luck, for the sake of some good kids, good foster/adoptive families and the system!!!

good for you Ann...one can make a difference..no matter how large or how small... do you know the 'starfish story'???

** There had been a terrible storm at sea during the night and in the morning all the starfish had been washed up onto the beach... starfish everywhere....as far as you could see...

and a little boy was running up and down the beach frantically grabbing up the starfish and throwing them back into the ocean...

a old man happened to walk by and stopped the little boy and said..."Little boy, what on earth are you doing?"

"I am saving the starfish" the little boy replied...

the old man threw back his head and laughed heartily..when he finished he said "Little boy, don't be so silly...look around...there are millions starfish all over this beach...and there is only ONE of you....you can't save the starfish...what difference could YOU possibly make?"....

the little boy looked around to see all the starfish waiting to be saved....then he looked at the one he was holding...and as he tossed it back into the ocean he replied, "I just made a difference to this one"......

so the moral of the story....don't give up....!

“After the last tree has been cut down, after the last river has been poisoned, after the last fish has been caught.
Only then will you find that money can't be eaten.”

Good for you, AnnK. Unfortunately, petty people sometimes get a little full of themselves (okay a LOT full of themselves) when they are in positions of power. It takes a strong person to stay on target and not let the bureaucracy wear you down.
