    Default Weird/Odd Christmas Traditions?

As I just got told that my tradition that I share with my dad is seen as 'weird'...I was wondering who else out there has any 'weird' or 'odd' traditions that they do on Christmas. With or without friends/family etc.

Mine - on the 25th I take my dad to the casino for some gambling and lunch at the buffet. This way we both get a break from cooking plus we can eat foods we don't cook. The casino's never too crowded and it gets us 'out' for the day seeing as our family prefers to visit with others on the 25th.

I just listed, in a different thread, what USED to be my tradition with my father before he died. Every Christmas day, I would go outside and build a small mud hut (about the size of a toad house). He would help me harden it by firing it with a road flare. Then he would try to blow it up with firecrackers. The challenge was to make him use as many firecrackers as possible to blow it up, so I would plan the house for strength and he would try to place the explosives for max efficiency.

Libby- I was surprised when I read that but whose business is it if you enjoy it??

We don't drink at our house (me never). We have sparkling cider to toast w/. We are looked as if we are children. I don't care. It seemed to be a real prob. for the Europeans. They thought I was WEIRD.

I guess the weirdest is I buy my child lottery tickets for fun every xmas. $8. worth. He won $8. this year. Sometimes we all scratch them off together. We have a quick laugh.

We have a Happy Birthday Jesus cake, complete with a candle and a baby Jesus on top. We sing Happy birthday to Jesus and the kids each get a turn in keeping the baby Jesus. We've done this since I was a little girl and the tradtion has continued on to our kids kids. The little ones eyes always light up when the cake comes out, and each of them love when it's their turn to keep the baby Jesus. Our youngest one (about 1 1/2 this year) had his turn tonight. The start of his baby Jesus collection has begun!

We also buy Baby Jesus a gift. (that's the gift for charity)

sinopa27, Absolutely! Borrow away. Nice to know our family tradition could have life in another family's home. Make sure you hunt for baby Jesus(s) at yard sales and at Goodwill, and the dollar store. They are harder to come by separately then you may think, and when you find them buy a bunch so you have a supply. Just don't be like me and forget were you stored your baby Jesus(s)!

I know its not really anyone's business but my own but I never really thought of it as odd/weird. I guess you'd say 'its out of the norm'? And I see nothing wrong with not drinking...I'm not a big drinker myself either. Heck we used to toast after a family meal over dessert and I'd use my tea or water glass lol.

No...I don't collect them, I do have a few stuffed versions - very cute when they're plush! I think they're cute but I was singing the Gayla Peevy song. One of the cell phone providers here in Canada uses it every Christmas in their ad. (also one of my fave songs) It was stuck in my head so I put it up there. Thanks for noticing!
