We changed a tradition this year
This is for the better. Every year we always went to my husbands sisters house for Christmas. iT'S not the sister that host it, we love her to death, but its the other sisters that sit back and gossip about everyone, ya know they are talking about you when all goes silent when u walk in the room bull crap.
This christmas was so STRESS FREE. We stayed at home. Our older daughter and the 2 boys came out had a nice lunch/dinner opened presents played games with the kids. Thats it. They left at around 3:30, boys had to be with there dad in the evening. I did dishes and took a 2 hour nap. thats why im up at this time of night.Im sure the family is fumming. But we asked our 14 year old daughter if she wanted to go we would take her, she says heck no, she wanted to stay home. Im sure the other child had her pity party over there. (she longer lives here with us she is 18 live with gossiping aunt)
Told hubby everyday that goes by my life just gets happier and happier. If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal. Not to
people or things.

Glad you had a really good day. Sounds like you had a family day to remember. Maybe again next year.

Much better. It sounds like even your daughter appreciated the quieter, calmer day. Sounds like a great new tradition.

Very good idea. My family has had a lot of changes in the last couple of years and I'm finding that although it does take a little bit of mental adjustment to envision Xmas in a new way, it can work out fine. My sis adopted this year and couldn't afford to come in to Chicago for the first time in 20 years; my grams moved to senior living in FL near my mom and since my grams can't travel, mom didn't want to leave her alone at Xmas; my aunt who usually has Xmas eve with 30 people has family issues going on and couldn't put on the party - no one else stepped forward either, except me, but no one wanted to drive up here. So Xmas eve I went to services down the street and just relaxed at home. Xmas day I went to my aunt and uncle's and saw a few relatives - and it was fun - and I had no clean up (I have hosted Xmas the last 10 years).
Goals:
Lose 25 lbs (exercise at least 3 times/wk/eat healthy)
Spend less
Save more $ in ES
