Default X-mas cards not on sale at CVS?

Well, I walked to CVS thinking I could buy some cards for next year on sale. They have signs up saying 50% off Christmas items. So I figured the cards I picked out would be on sale. Plus I only brought $5 with me to make sure I didn't buy to much. Get to the register and they rang up regular price. I said no thanks guess I will try back later in the week, maybe Friday. The cashier said they would not be on sale and would never be on sale. This cashier has worked at CVS for a while and knows what is going on. Just surprised they would not be on sale.

WHAT??!!!?? I thought. So I walked out of the store thinking ok, if I don't come up with a christmas painting to use I can always make some quick and easy picture on the computer. Mind you the cards were only $7.99. Guess I have embraced the frugal mentality when it comes to the holidays.

Will keep an eye out just in case other stores have them on sale. Was at AC Moore but did not like any of the cards they had on sale there.

Anyone else running into situations like this?

Went to Pier One yesterday to purchase x-mas decorations only to find very few to choose from. Guess everyone's inventory was low.

I found cards on sale 70% off at Michael's craft store right before Christmas. Stocked up on enough to last me a couple of years.

Against my better judgement, I went to Kmart on the 26th... NO candy, no wrapping paper and next to nothing else for that matter. This isn't the first year this has happened there. I am starting to think that stuff is just going back in to the warehouse to be sold at regular price the next time.

I'll check the Dollar Tree soon to see what they have left for cards, pretty much set on everything else.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

The individual Hallmark cards never go on sale or clearance. You might see coupons for them once in a while.

Walgreens has their boxed cards half price currently. You might try there if you have one around.

Suppose I thought I could continue with the typical savings by buying after the holiday. Guess will have to rethink this for next year. Fortunately I have a nice printer that I can use. Do still have some holiday cards that you place a photo in the front. Will continue to watch the prices at CVS for wrapping paper.

Huh, the light went on. I will also look for cards at the local thrift store. Atleast I can get envelopes there if I make my own cards. HA!!!! take that no after holiday season sales!!!

We lucked out at our Target (having a blizzard Christmas day might have helped out a bit). We bought our cards for next year at half price. I have a few left over from this year as well. Since I am pruning my list down there will be fewer to send out next year.

I saw them 50% off at Walmart yesterday. I picked some up and forced myself to put them back.

I have TONS of cards I bought on sale in previous years and I found a HUGE supply when cleaning out mom's house.

Marshalls & T J Maxx has really nice cards at great prices before Christmas ($3.99-5.99 a box). Not sure if any are left to be marked down, but at $3.99 seems like a deal to me. Sometimes I get mine there if I miss the after Christmas sales or try stores like Barnes & Noble. I got a deal at B&N the past 2 years... 75% off 2nd week in January I believe ($9.99-7.50=$2.49 a box)!

On my walk today stopped at Family Dollar. Was able to buy three boxes of x-mas card for $1.50 total. Best part is they are perfect to add glitter to to make them extra special.

Yes, I'm in retail and our inventory was low too...but our holiday cards are 50% off. I did have fun at JoAnna Fabrics buying holiday decorations at 70% off 2 weeks before Christmas!

I think the stores are "hip" to buying the Christmas stuff after Christmas deal. It has been the "hot" advice for so many years. I bet they just return them to the warehouse and sale at regular or inflated prices this year.

The cards at my local CVS were 50% off on Sunday. Not sure what gives with yours not marking them down.
