I am such an idiot.....
I just realized that I paid our 2nd mortgage bill due on Dec 15th to the wrong lender.....DOH! Green Tree bought our 2nd mortgage from National City Bank back in October. I pay everything through on-line banking. Somehow I managed to send the payment to National City instead of Green Tree. Here's the weird thing, National City accepted it. So now I have to wait until Monday to contact Green Tree and see if National City transfered it over to them or if that money is floating around somewhere. Plus I don't want a late fee put on my Green Tree account. UGH! One would think that since N.C. accepted it they would transfer it over but then making sense is not something banks do.
Very stressed right now. Anyone else screw up like this? Misery loves company!!Live - Laugh - Love
2012 Goals:
1. Build up EF.
2. Lose weight.
3. Quit smoking.
4. Stay within my monthly budget.
5. Continue paying down debt.

I haven't made a payment to the wrong lender, but I did write the payment for the cable company into my check register and then forgot to actually make the payment.

I did this last year.
I sent my rent check in a bill to the doctor's
office. They also accepted it! Last I knew,
my landlord wasn't one of their doctors!
They took their time refunding my money too.
I pay most of my bills online now, so when I
do have to write a check for something, I
always doublecheck since that boo-boo.
My biggest blunder was MANY years ago
when I sent a money order receipt in a bill
instead of the actual money order! lol
Luckily, I saved the "receipt" and was able
to fix that EMBARRASSING blunder! You have succeeded in life when all you really want is only what you really need.

You want to hear something even more ridiculous; my dh sent his mortgage payment to his auto loan bank and visa versa. The auto loan bank cashed the check and it was obviously way larger than the car payment and they kept it!!! It was cashed with the wrong name on it. These banks are getting greedy taking our money and then not doing their jobs.
Vickilynn my ds just had his ipod washed. He tried the rice thing and so far isn't working.

Last year I had switched banks. I was so excited to pay off my Boston Store charge, I didn't pay attention to which bank account I selected to take the payment from....unfortunately I selected the account that was closed. Ended up with a late fee.
So after that I went through everything I paid online and deleted the old banking info (slow learner).
But even worse, my MIL had passed away 7 or so years ago. I did her final income taxes to mail in, but I sent the federal check to the state and vice versa, and of course they cashed them.

uhm so our utility companies are very close to one and another and when I am in town I drop the payments of and save stamps. I had my car note ready to be put in the mail box and accidentally dropped it in the drop box at the electric company. Luckily I called and they pulled it and stuck it in the mail for me! We live in a small town and you can actually leave utility payments at the local bank or drop them all of at one of the cpmanies and they will route them to where they need to go!

Don't feel so bad I have two sets of bills I pay each month and I have paid the wrong ones at the wrong time before. These kinds of things can happen to anyone. You get distracted by everyday life, it happens. Hope everything works out.

At the water department, we get a lot of people dropping off the checks for their mortgage, cable, etc. We always call them, let them know and ask if they want us to mail it on or if they want to pick it up. We've had several people key in teh wrong amounts on their online banking, for example one guy typed in 3141. instead of 31.41--we called him to confirm it was an error and asked him to come pick up a refund check that we issued the same day.
We get a lot of mail mistakenly routed to us too--both through consumer error (you know that little bar code on the envelope? even if you cross out the mailing address and write in a new one, it still goes to wherever that bar code is programmed--we got a guy's alimony payment) and through post office error. One lady mailed her credit card bill to some place in SD and it ended up in our office--we didn't catch it and it went through our mail opener, etc but I typed up a new envelope and sent it on for her. I did call and tell her about the mix-up.
Hope you can get this straightened out!McD

Once accidentally pressed a button when paying a car insurance bill, which would have deducted an amount larger than what my finances could handle. Luckily I was able to explain what happened to the customer service rep and they could see what I did wrong and billed me the proper amount. Was definately a life saver since the rent check would have bounced.

I'm guessing you initiated this from your bank account, not their bill pay functions, right?
You might be able to call the bank and halt the transaction. MrsMcDowell correct me if I'm wrong here, I've only worked with them a little in I.T. - but don't these kinds of bill pay systems use ACH transactions that have a 4 day confirmation cycle?
Can she put a stop on it?If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Depending on where she is at in the bill-pay process, yes. I don't know much about the specifics of where it would need to be in the cycle as I never dealt with the 'behind the scenes' aspect of bill pay.
