Default We had to replace our well pump

so $950 later, we have water pressure again. We had to have some work down on our water softner system in March and they mentioned to me that they thought the pump was going. We had set aside $1000 from a bonus dh got in the spring and it was nice to have it set aside to pay for it when the time came. It made it a little less painful I guess.

BUT that was sort of our cushion for anything that might go wrong with the house (and there is always something that goes wrong around here). If the furnace had broken it would have come from there. Well, now it is spent and we have no household repair cushion. So instead of sending extra to the van loan, I guess we will rebuild the savings yet again. It never ends!

Wow, ours cost way more than that to do. I thnk I paid $2500. and the yard was SO torn up. My DH was just leaving for a trip to England when it went. It was Jan and they told me they couldn't get the truck down our street because of permafrost. super glad you got a warning. We should have known because it was sucking dirt up into the tubs but we were foolish city folk.lol The plus side was we found out our well head wasn't sealed on. EWWW lucky. Anything could have gotten in.

Good that you had the money set aside! Was it the well pump or the entire well that had to be replaced/redone? $950 sounds a little high to me just to replace the pump...unless of course you have a submursible pump. Ours is in a pit & hubby makes all repairs himself...so far anyway.

Wow...brings back memories. When I was a young mother with 3 little girls, on a farm with cattle & hogs, we were forever having well trouble. I remember one January, I think the drilling truck was with us the whole month! BUT..you had the extra to pay--YEAH! BUT, frugalwarrior... your company you hired should have put down sheets of plywood before they drove on your yard. Your yard wouldn't have been torn up.. & just good will to their customers. Hubby does excavating..he does this.

It is a submersible pump - thank goodness because we have 2 feet of snow on the ground right now. No digging involved.

Ours went out a few years ago on Mother's day weekend. It was $750 for us only because DH took it all apart and the guy only had to pull up the pump, test it, and put the new pump in. Most of that I think was the price for the new pump (the kind that goes down the hole).
