My cat is starting to make me concerned
As some of you that have read my other posts know I have the world’s most hateful cat.
Today he has out done himself.
When we first moved here I was having some issues with his attitude and as punishment I would put him in the bathroom. His litter box is in there and I keep food for him there as well, it was just a break from each other for no more than an hour. He HATED it and learned how to turn the door knob. So I would put him in the bathroom and he would wait a few minutes open the door and walk right out. I them started locking the door and he hasn’t figured out the lock exactly yet. He knows he has to turn it; he just can’t get it to turn with his paw.
Since it got cold I turned the vent off in our bedroom (he sleeps in the bed with me) and leave the door shut during the day. He wants the door open and we have been fighting over this. I go and close it; he walks right behind me and opens it. This usually ends in a fight with me putting him in the bathroom again.
Today he scared me…..more than a little.
On one side of the hall is our bedroom door and the other is a short hallway with a cabinet at the end. The bathroom is at the other end. There is a small space between the end of the hall and the cabinet.
I went into the bathroom today and when I came out my bedroom door was open. I mumbled some things under my breath and shut the door for the 50th time today. Out of nowhere he attacked me.
I am pretty sure the door was bait; he waited for me to close it with my back towards the space between the cabinet and the hall so he could have the drop on me.
I was shocked a little at first and then grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and put him into the bathroom. I mean did my cat really just set a trap for me. Did I really just fall for a trap set by my cat?
If I suddenly stop posting on here, please make sure the police know it was probably my cat, Ok?

Oh he sounds like close cousins to my girl who just died. She was a handful. If she didn't like a boyfriend (she was pre DH), she would jump up and grab his food off his plate or something similar. She could open doors too. I used childproofing door knob covers. Always know where that cat is before you do anything!!!

he never stops surprising me. Just when I think I got him figured out and am good to go, HE goes and shows me a show new level.

Sorry but that is hilarious. I'm not a cat lover and this just might be why, you can't trust them.

Maybe he needs a cage and lots of time out ???
I like dogs as pets.....they are more mellow.

Sorry but your post had me laughing. Which I needed since I just dropped my kitty at the vet for possibly a urinary infection. And my other cat just scratched my face. Apparently she does not like to be held while I close a curtain. So am trying to control the slight bleeding on my face. Right now she is sitting on my lap purring away. Me with a wounded face wondering how to explain the cat scratches on my face. Not sure makeup with cover it.
The other cat at the vet hates, I mean hates to be locked up. Which happens when someone comes to fix something. She lets everyone know her displeasure for two days. Luckily she does not know about opening door knobs.
Sounds like your kitty is very bright and just wants to play with you. You could also film these incidents and post them on you tube. It sounds as if you really need one of those cat crossing signs. lol

Wow, i love my cats more after that story. My cats put crunchy cat food and grapes in our shoes and hide until we put them on. Thats a cat "joke".They put their toys in our bed as a gift. Thats a gift.
But my cats never growl, hiss or scratch me. Not in 20 years. I am the boss. If they try I PFFFFTTT. at them. Your cat thinks he's your boss and will continue upping it. If he gets your ankle again, PFFFTTT at his. He should run off.

My friend's cat does this to his gf. When I go to visit them both, the cat is contantly tormenting her and leaves him alone. With me, I'm not there often enough so the cat's always testing the waters with me and each time I show it who's boss and what I will/will not tolerate. Even if it means I need to gently bite him back to show him no.

Just to let you know some of the things I have tried to correct these issues:
Water bottle with water: worked the first time, now he knows its just water and he sits and stares at me while I squirt him.
Newspaper: Worked for bout a week. Now he pees on every newspaper he sees except for a very few in which he shreds. You may or may not be reading the paper at the time. he dosen't really care.
Time out: He fusses for the first few minutes and then stops. When I open the door he sits there glares at me and then attacks me again at the first possible opportunity.
Flyswatter: That worked real good for one evening. I came home after work the next day to find small pieces of green plastic flyswatter all over the house.
Hissing and Bitting: I tried the hissing thing and he gave me an odd look one time and then slapped me. He now ignores me when I hiss at him. I now routinly bite him when he bites me. Doesn't really do any good, he just bites that much harder and ends up in time-out for a while again. It does make me feel a little better though.
Want to know what works better than anything? I tell him I hear the UPS man and hes gonna get him. He runs and hides under the bed.
Shoiji, a few weeks ago I picked him up and was hugging him. He was NOT happy. He bit me on the neck. It didn't break the skin though. I had to explain the next day where the hickie on my neck came from.
When I moved in 07 my jack russell/rat terrior stayed with my Mom. I got my cat because I really wanted someone to come home to and knew a dog couldn't handle me being at work for 18 hrs a day. A cat is happy to have the place to himself and a dog just goes crazy for that amount of time.
I now work from home and REALLY wish I had my dog.

Perhaps you should just sit down with him and ask him to stop trying to dominate you. He needs to understand that you have an equal partnership in running the house and if he is going to continue those behaviors he better think again. If he has that much energy at least teach him to use the vacuum and scrub the toilets for you.
I am really amazed that none of the techniques you've tried have made and impact. Perhaps HE needs a dog to put him in his place (please note a small dog may not survive long with a cat like that). The Free Spirit Saver who walks the path with Greebo.
