Going to have a Swap Party...
I've heard a lot about "Swap Parties" and decided I'd have one myself in March to celebrate spring and because spring is generally when people get in the cleaning mode.
I plan on inviting 20 people and I'm asking that each person bring a certain number of items to the party for swapping. Problem is I can't decide on a number. I thought about doing 10, but that would be 200 items and depending on the size of the items I'm not sure I'd be able to have everything displayed nicely. After the party anything that hasn't found a new home will go into box/boxes to be donated to one of 2 charities. The charity will be decided upon by voting...very democratic LOL.
So, anyway does anybody have a number suggestion?"Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

Sounds like fun. You could have them each could bring a set # of pre determined items ex. 3 clothing items, 3 books, 1 lg item. I don't know how much space you have but maybe that would help. Or they could take a picture of the lg items to be picked up later. ex. a book shelf. KWIM.
I love the it that they get to help pick the charity. Very cool! You'll have to let us know how it goes.2010 Challanges:

This sounds sooo interesting and fun. I would love to go to one. I had never heard of them before. As lilk said, please let us know how it goes.
Size of items might not even turn out to be an issue... When you invite people, you might mention how much space you have and how many people you are inviting, to sort of give them an idea of size. That being said, I'd still suggest 10 items.
Are you going to set up tables outside, or ...? What all are you planning to do for it? This all sounds so intriguing!

Sounds like a great idea. You could limit the types of items. Mainly keeping them small. This way you can see how it goes.

I just read about swap parties in Better Homes and Gardens mag. Sounds like a lot of fun. You get new things and don't have to spend anything. Win, win.

I would think ten things would be OK. Just because you invite 20 people, do you think they will all show up? Ask a couple of ladies if they have tables to help display things on..surly someone would be able to help you there.
Good luck , and please keep us posted on how you do!Mom to Sara Louise (11) Wife to wonderful hubby Chad

I already have plenty of tables, I'm holding it inside and yes, the people I plan on inviting would all participate. I think it's going to be fun, kind of like a free garage sale!
I think Better Homes & Gardens is the magazine I read about Swap Parties in...it's one of the mags I subscribe to.
Once the party is over I'll let you know how it went...if it turns out well I may do it a couple of times a year."Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon
