most of the stuff i have is also bought when clearanced or good sale... i have tons of samples, hotel freebies, all those 'special' items that you were saving for company...(that never came or when they do they could care less what the bar of soap looks like..they just grab whatever i am using that is in the dish...i love that kind of company...lol)

so last year I decided it was time to use it all up...all the 'pretties' lying around collecting dust...and also all the 50 opened bottles of everything under the cabinets...then it was on to all the un-opened stuff....it had just worked out that i have not needed to buy any of this stuff for a long time...one day it will all run out and i will have to replenish...but not in the quantities that i had going before.... sure i will stock up again on the super-buys...(even though i never see any anymore coz i have all but boycotted shopping).... but when i do...i will use 1 item 1 bottle at a time....

(and it helps that i have been learning how to completely eliminate stuff for the future)
... no more 100's of different cleaning supplies...vinegar/baking soda and water does it all...
...olive oil replaces all the 20 different facial products i thought i should be buying....
...free hotel soaps make great bubble bath, toilet bowl cleaner, etc...(am picky on shampoo type i use in my hair)....
...plastic grocery bags make excellent kitchen bags....
    and so on....

so when it does come time for re-stocking...i will be re-thinking too....

Only then will you find that money can't be eaten.”

I have made a conscious effort to use everything up before buying anything else. I probably could go 6 months without buying shampoo and conditioner. As well as cleaners.

I will start looking at the sales on stuff that I know that we will use and start buying some.

Now if you were to ask this by this time next year I would, at this point, have to say that I wouldn't HAVE to buy ( unless so good can't pass up ) for a year

    hamburger helper ( hmmm..not great )
    canned clams
    water chestnuts
    cake mixes

    miracle whip
    maybe ketchup

    tuna
    very possibly washing powders
    most cleaners

I stock up when things are on sale or at great prices at the salvage grocery, but I have to be careful about expiration dates, etc. I think I could go a year without buying the following:

    brownie mix
    jelly (home-made)
    pinto beans
    black beans
    sugar
    salt
    razors
    ketchup
    bandaids
    shampoo
    conditioner
    dish detergent
laundry soap (although I will be buying laundry detergent)
    honey
    chocolate chips
    fish (bass and bream)
    tuna
    dog shampoo and conditioner
