    http://www.southcoasttoday.com/apps/.../NEWSLETTER100

delivery man will be fired for not cutting his hair which he is planning to donate to locks of love.
i think he could put it in a ponytail or do something for a neater appearance.....but to fire him is "harsh". it is for a good cause.....what do you think?

Well they gave him options such as a ponytail or a cap. I don't have a problem with my delivery guy having long hair; however, if it is their policy then he must abide by it same as any employee. they didn't say they would fire him for not cutting. He just needs to do one of the options they provided him.

The article says they told him to cut it OR HIDE it. Great that he wants to give to Locks of Love - but if his job requires a certain look - he better change jobs or conform to that look.

If the job has guidelines, he needs to go by that. IMO they gave him some workable options.

A rule is a rule and he knew that when he was hired. I have actually had conversations about appearance with my Fed-ex and UPS reps in the past. Plainly put, its in their employee manuals. If you want to be a driver you MUST fit their appearance guide lines. FYI, they ever control the color of their socks.

This guy knew this from the get go. I personally think he probably came up with the "locks-4-love" idea after his boss said he had to cut it and is trying to make Fed-ex seem like the big bad corporation.

They gave him perfectly usable options, he just wants something to B*tch about.

Sounds to me like they gave him some fair options. If he is really interested in donating his hair then he will choose one of those options and abide by it.

I also agree with the others. They were willing to let him keep it if he would "hide" it. If you want to work somewhere, you need to abide by their rules for appearance.

Nana2two is right. Accept the compromise or cut it to keep your job. Anyone who doesn't do whatever is ethical and reasonable to protect their job in this economy doesn't have the sense God gave chickens.

I agree with everyone else, it's no different than having to cover a tattoo, or take out extra piercing to abide by company policies. New hires always get this info up front.

I personally don't understand what the fuss about a guy having long hair is. This seems like a fairly old-fashioned way of thinking. As long as he keeps it clean and neat, I don't see how it matters what length his hair is. But I suppose that isn't the issue.

The viable option I see is for him to just get the brown Fed-Ex knit cap he was talking about. It costs him, yes, but seriously, couldn't he just borrow one from a friend or a co-worker? Or ask them to donate it? A lot of people have to pay for their work attire.

So I currently have shoulder length hair. I really cannot imagine working as a delivery person without tying my hair up. Seriously, all that bending over, my hair would drive me nuts, not to mention the hazards of not seeing where you are going.

He has more than enough options stop whining!

If they have a 'dress/hair code', he has to abide by it and put the hair under the cap.

That said, my DH employs a guy who is a great employee and had hair way down his back until just recently (he cut it, his idea). He is in a rock band and has gigs on the weekends. BUT, he works in the office and isn't seen by anybody, just talks to them on the phone.

I, personally, like long hair on guys.
