Schools & Scholastic Book Orders...
So that my gk's classrooms would get a free book I told them I would do their Scholastic Book Club orders online. Luckily there are only two of them in elementary school! Finished up their orders online this morning and figured out that the kids could get a free book too. But, the trick is ordering all from 1 flyer...wouldn't you think that they would put that info on the website before you start ordering....had to go back & remove books from one flyer & re-order them from another just to reach the $10 required to get the free book!
Good thing grandma pays attention...and a better thing that grandma has more money now than she did when their mom was little...couldn't ever afford to order books for my kids from those darned flyers."Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

Book fair days were my FAVORITE when I was in school!
Hopefully my future children will love to read as much as I did!

We had an opportunity to order books from Wesley's pre-school and truth be told, it was far cheaper to buy the books thru the book order form than at a store. I love buying books for Wesley.
We also did it online so the pre-school would get free books.

I miss scholastic as well. We set up as a homeschool and didn't order thru the school. We got tons of free books. We used to give the class lots of books we got free thru there. Unfortunately, they changed their system and my kids grew up.
Great while it lasted.

I bought soooo many books when DS14 was little that DS 7 is now reading them. I'm so glad I spent the money on them. He brought home a scholastic book form and I'm going to let him pick out a book. My kids always wanted/want the books that come w/ a toy.....

My gd is in preschool, for $10 she is getting 7 books which includes the free one. Plus, her classroom will get 1 free book because her order was placed online. My gs is getting 5 books (includes the free one) for $12 and his class will also get a free book for the order being placed online.
Teachers spend so much of their own money on classroom supplies and their students, if I can help out by getting them a free book I'm all for it."Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

As a parent and teacher I too love Scholastic book ordering!! I have found that the prices are cheaper through the book orders than through the Scholastic Book Fairs held at schools - really have to be to be profitable. With the points I get as a teacher ordering the books, I buy more books for the preschoolers for them to take home. Not all of our students have books at home - and this way they have some that are theirs alone!!
Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

Good for you! And good for the pre-schoolers! I've just read about some experiment from the British government: they gave books to parents of 7m-old kids to read with/to them. Apparantly, it gave the kids a headstart that they never lost throughout their school/university career! and it made for better bonding between parents/kids.

When I taught in Kuwait we did Scholastic book orders. I got all kinds of freebie books for my class since I taught 2nd grade girls who LOVED to read. They weren't as cheap though, since there was shipping to add in, but it was worth it for the quality. I ordered some for my own kids too.
I don't know if they do any kind of book orders at the kids' school here or not. I don't remember from when E was here before. I sure hope so. I know of the novels he has for English this year that one of them is from Scholastic so I'm hoping so.

I always loved book orders in school. I usually had the highest bill. My family was not very well off but my parents always would buy books for me. Because of that I became a vivacious reader. I tried to do the same with both my children, my son loves to read as much as I do however my daughter always says she will just wait for the movie. She is getting a little bit better though. She read the first two twilight books and was very disappointed in the movie because she said they had changed so much and the characters were not what she had "pictured" while reading the book. I had been trying to explain to her for along time that books are pretty much always better than the book. The only exception I have found is Cold Mountain. All while I was reading the book I kept telling my husband that it was so descriptive that it would make a great movie.
