So much for Sunny Warm Florida
Okay, know we here aren't by far in the worst weather shape but
to make matters almost comical....
Water froze up last night. Still don't have any at 4PM late afternoon. Instead of buying water I have some empty milk jugs that I'm filling up at friends and taking home. Hope it's unfroze by tomorrow. BUT
Here's the kicker...
We called all the hardware stores around for 2 towns....No hardware here including Lowes and Home Depot carry heat tape or anything even remotely close. Car places have no clue what De-Icer for windshields is either. Geesh..Bank of America is THE godfather of Hell with Wells Fargo running neck and neck. When the world ends the only things that will be left are cockroaches, Walmart, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. Not necessarily in that order. The order remains to be seen.

If it's frozen where you can get at it you can use a hair dryer...works well to unfreeze pipes.
We are finally supposed to get a heat wave here...up to 40 degrees over the next couple of days."Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

The weather is crazy. It's freezing in Florida, and here I am up in Canada, where our overnight low last night was 8.6C (that's about 47F). Something wrong with this picture!

NikoSan, I left a message for you on the "Use it up, etc. 2010" challenge thread.
Take Care in this freeze!
Keith, I'm in Canada too, and believe me, it's definitely freezing where I am!
-30 to -40 last week, but it's been warming up to -12, and should get even warmer in the next few days.

I know! I'm in Central Florida, and it's just horrible! Even with our heat blasting, it's still cold in the house. I can just hear the propane bill going up. My dh's van almost froze up, because no anitfreeze in the radiator. ugh. We are just not equipped to live in this weather.
Our water almost froze, but I got up in the night to run it for a while, it was quite sluggish though, when I got up this morning, at 18 degrees.

My Family are on their way...
I know its all relative,
My Grandmother and Aunt and Uncle just left for the Keys today.
We all live up here in Upstate NY, been about 10-15 degrees the last week on the high end. So I guess the 40s and 60s are a nice improvement...
Hang in there it will be back in the 80 before you guys know it!!!!

Niko, so sorry about your pipes. Use a hair dryer, it will help to defrost them. Once you get your water running again, leave a tap running...either in the shower or the kitchen sink...somewhere, it will help to keep them from freezing again.
You guys aren't use to living in that type of climate. Great learning experience though as you are learning what not to do or what to do next time.
Can't send you warm temps but warm thoughts.

I'm in south Florida, and geez this has been a crazy cold winter so far. I had a nice layer of ice across my car's windshield this morning, and had nothing to get it off. So I put the credit card to good use...by using it as a make-shift scraper.
It is supposed to warm up. We were in the lower 30s last night, and are in the upper 30s tonight. High of 63 tomorrow, thank goodness. So many people have been cranking the heat in my county that there were a little over 1000 people without power yeasterday. All of the increased activity blew the grid.Cedar’s Challenges

I for one am loving this weather!! it was so hot and humid for so long I don't know how people cannot enjoy a change. I can actually breathe for a change and it gives me energy throughout the day instead of breaking a sweat just to go to the mailbox. it's beautiful and brisk and I wish it were like this everyday. if it goes below 80 degrees in this state or god forbid the sun doesn't come out for one day everyone goes into a freaking panic

I got the other message and replied. I will definitely take heed and use your suggestions.
We didn't even have blankets until Friday??Maybe Saturday. Somewhere in there. Just a few small throws. Blankets were at a premium in the stores. I couldn't believe the price of electric blankets, not that there were many. I wouldn't pay $90 to $130 for one blanket. Beside I would have needed 2. I got a pair of thermal underwear. Once this is over I'll fold them and tuck them away for another time.Bank of America is THE godfather of Hell with Wells Fargo running neck and neck. Yeah, so much for Global Warming. More like it's reversing. Warming upper and foing toward freezing in the lower. It's been getting colder and colder here every winter for the past several years. Dosen't last drastically long but still ....Definitely something wrong with this picture.

To get ice off your windshield, you could use your egg/pancake turner utensil. Keep your head & feet warm (baseball caps will help)or you'll catch cold; dress in layers; drink hot liquids

and eat oatmeal and buttered toast for more body heat.
Global warming causes climate changes, more evaporation of water, more air currents, more winds and altered air masses, shifting weather patterns and changes in the tidal patterns; increasingly unstable conditions in otherwise generally predictable weather patterns.

There's a big difference between 80 and 20...a difference of 60 degrees. 20 is way below freezing any way you cut it. Don't know how long you've been here from New York but there are a lot of houses and apartments that weren't even built with heat.
And needless to say there are alot of older people in this state. Alot without heat. And this states crops won't take this weather and the economy is already in the pits. The farmers/grovers/dairyers can't take much more.
By the way, I don't panic. I'm orginally from Ohio. In the hills. In the places snow plows and ice trucks don't travel. Where you expect the water to freeze a couple times every winter.
I myself think it's funny when people move here to the extreme south and go into a freaking panic when they break into a sweat and complain about humidity. What do they expect from the far southLast edited by NikoSan999; 01-11-2010 at 11:01 PM.

I have been in Florida pretty much most of my life.
Yes I am a whiney Florida person that can't stand the cold.
It is pretty bad when the big lizard things (whatever they are called) fall out of the trees in South Fla because their bodies have gone into freeze mode.
I personally have been hibernating in the house all this last week to only poke my head out to get the mail, etc.
Sad, huh? But, warmer weather is on its way! :-)Hello from Sunny Central Florida
