I have a little piggy bank with a chipped open top that belonged to my grandmother. When she was small, it sat on her grandmothers mantle and her grandparents would add change for her future. She snuck into their house, chipped open the top and took money to buy candy and penny dolls for her sisters (she figured it was her money afterall!) Of course she was caught and punished severely and all her life that bank sat on the mantle. She called it the badge of her disgrace.
It sat on her dressing table all my life, she showed it to me when I was little and had been very bad. She told me she had been naughty but still grew up to be good, and - could too.
When she died, that was the thing I asked for, the broken piggy bank. Now it sits on my bureau to remind me we can all grow up to be good no matter what. A bank that"s been broken for almost 100 years!!
On a totally different note, I can't bring myself to get rid of my comforter from college. Too many, um, good memories. If my dh knew why I was so attached to it, he'd probably burn it! (Blush!)

An old pot. LoL It's just an ugly old brown pot with ugly old brown flowers on it that my mother used to cook in for years when we were growing up. When she moved and got rid of a bunch of her stuff, I took the pot. I used it a lot when I had nothing else, but now I keep it. No reason, it is never used anymore. It's just the memory of good homecooked meals.

I have a letter my mother wrote me when I got married. I keep it in my safe. She died in 1993. It has wonderful advice on it. I plan to write a letter to my daughters when they get married and give them a copy of my letter. Maybe they can pass it to their daughters.

Oh.... I don't think any of these are silly as all of them are attached to memories of people. I have a few odd ball things like that well such as my grandfather's harmonica that he would sit on the porch in the evening and play for hours. I don't know where the accordian wandered off to as none of us actual grandchildren have it but I would love to have that as well.
Now for silly .... I am very strongly attached to a small stuffed Bambi that I've had since Valentine's Day in second grade. I'm not attached to it because of who gave it to me and still haven't ever really been able to come up with why .... but if I could only grab a bagful of stuff from my house this would be in it. My uncle had taken us to Disney when we visited him when I was in the second grade. I was allowed to pick a suviouner and I had trouble decideing between the stuffed Bambi and felt horse. I am/was a horse nut so I ended up picking the horse. I was upset with my choice before we even made it back from vacation. A few weeks later was Valentine's and mom, seeing my hard time deciding had bought the Bambi, and gave it too me for Valentine's. I have drug that thing EVERYWHERE. The older I get the less Bambi travels off the back of the bed but occassionally the old urge hits such as when I refused to go into surgery to have my oldest son unless they put that thing in plastic and let me take it with me. My husband thought I was a wacked out from the pain but I know better. It's some strange silly security thing.

Mom was not one to have things she didn't use. She had just what she needed, and no more. The only thing I have from her is a set of green bowls with a moon-and-stars design. She used the big one for a mixing bowl, the middle one for prunes that she stewed every week, and the small one for leftovers. I use them the same way (we like prunes). DH's mom had every kitchen tool known to woman. I inherited them, and use most of them a lot. I wouldn't part with the bowls or the tools.

I'm very protective of a light green big tupperware bowl.
Yes, a tupperware bowl.
It's my popcorn bowl. I've had it for over 25 years.
I was really upset one time when I found ceashels using it to hold material for the compost heap.If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I have a sugar bowl and a small creamer pitcher no more than 5" tall when stacked ontop of each other, My nana gave them to me. I have my Nanas first wedding ring worn out and thin (Papa up graded her ring a few times over the years). My mothers love knot earings, My nanas first Canadian Passport after she became a citizen, a few hankies from my Nana. Other treasures I have left with My Mom for safe keeping I would be very sad if they were lost in a hurricane.

I have two plants that were my mother's and I've tended them for the past 5 years. She always joked that I was bad with houseplants but my outdoor garden was better than hers. I have fretted over her old house plants. They are not especially thriving but the are alive. One year, I got a huge amount of flowers on the Christmas cactus and I felt like it was a sign. This past year, I didn't get any... I know I will be sad if they die...

I cook every night in my Mamaw's green Club aluminum cookware. It is avacado green (matches the roosters in my kitchen border). I also have a couple of quilts she made. I have her hoosier cabinet and metal table that goes w/it.
My mom had a mouton coat that my dad gave her for one of their first Christmases. She made me a teddy bear last year out of that coat..... What a sweet thing to do. I'll always cherish it.
I have other things from family members that mean alot to me. Its not silly. It's sweet.Truck paid off 12/07(paid in full)

I have a pin that my Great grandma wore on her collar when she got married. My parents have a photo w/ it. It is still in the original box. I wore it on my wedding day. My aunt had it before she passed when I was a young teen. My grandma wanted it back but my uncle gave it to me as my aunt wanted. My cousin has the brooch that matches. I have never seen it and have always been curious. I suppose their worth something but I don't care. I just like the continuity. Never knew Great grandma as she died when my Grandma was 16yrs. old.

Since we moved into our home in 1997 I have grown petunias for one grandmother, and marigolds for my other grandmother.
Petunias always grew lush and colorful on my grandmom's back porch in hanging baskets and pots. What a feast for the eyes!
My grandma Na grew fragrant marigolds along her silver chain link fence which divided her and the neighbor's property. They graced that fence every year when I was a little girl. My Pop Pop would paint that fence with silver paint.
Two years ago my grandmom died. I planted my petunias as I normally did but with a heavy heart. The crazy thing is petunias started growing in random places in my gardens. I always grow petunias in a huge container. They were growing in front of my house, the island of my driveway, and in a small part of my gravel driveway. Petunias are annuals in Maryland. Don't know if they re-seeded or what?Carrie, ravenmaniac - I love my Ravens!!!!
