    It makes no sense to me that they even let him audition since he's wayyyyy beyond the age cutoff for contestants.

    I think this is the very first open audition which is why he was prob allowed. This way they can't accused of discriminating...who knows, if they found a Susan Boyle here in North America maybe they'd keep them in regardless of age?
