Default Support for Haiti - Credit Companies take a cut?

One of my friends said that credit companies are taking a cut of any donations paid for b credit card. I guess I should not be surprised. Apparently a few of them are waivinhg their fees - does anyone know which ones those might be? I have not yet found one. I will gladly write a check rather than have a bloated company siphon money off from people who desperately need it.

My own personal charity of choice in Haiti and the Carribean in general is http://www.foodforthepoor.org/ , it is one that I have supported for many years and it was vetted by our church before they were permitted to do on-site solicitation. Nearly 98% of what is contributed goes directly into programs to support those in need - that's a percentage that not many charities can meet. I always check out a charity's financial structure before donating.

I hope I have posted this in an appropriate area, I really am interested in which of the credit card companies might be doing the right thing.Update: Just found out that Discover Card is waiving their fees for donations to the American Red Cross.

I wondered if there would be a handling charge from the banks when our news came on asking for donations to be sent to certain banks - and they 'just happened' to be B of A and Chase....hahaha...like I would put anything in those banks!

I use this when I want to check out a charity.....one reason I like it is that is gives the $ the CEO is paid......

Credit cards get a cut of every transaction, period.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Some waive their fees, but I doubt many of them will...that's how they make their money. Even if they waive the fees donors will still have to pay interest on the funds donated through their card.

Personally, if I were to donate I would do so by check.

I saw on the news yesterday morning that most of them are waiving the fee for a donation to Haiti. They were encouraged to do so by the government and most, if not all, said they would refund the fee if you had already been charged it. That is according to CNN.

Here is a link I found on the CNN website. It says all four major cards are waiving fees to certain charities and it gives a list of which ones.
