I use homemade kefir for probiotics. You take REAL kefir grains that you use over and over to ferment milk. The kefir grains grow and continually renew themselves, so you can share them with others. Add the kefir grains to milk (of choice) and allow to ferment at room temperature 12-24-hours. Much easier than making yogurt, and MUCH better for you than yogurt, when you thoroughly study the subject. Kefir is easier to digest than yogurt.
The curd is smaller, but similar to yogurt. I use kefir as a substitute for buttermilk, plain yogurt, cream cheese, and sour cream. We start the day with a smoothie made with kefir, 100% fruit juice, freshly-milled flaxmeal, High-Maize Resistant Starch, and a supplement powder.
Here's a list of probiotics found in kefir made with real kefir grains:

There are other sources for probiotics beyond yogurt and kefir. I make homemade sauerkraut in a quart jar and refrigerate or freeze the kraut. Never heat-process sauerkraut or you destroy all the good bacteria (probiotics). Other fermented veggies and soy also contain probiotics.
Make your own.... Probiotics have a short shelf life. Probiotic producers list their potency at the time of packaging instead of the actualy shelf life, so to assure you get the most possible, make your own kefir.

Wow Grainlady you're such a wealth of knowledge but unfortunately at this point in my life I'm not able to make or ferment anything as I shar the house with my dad and he will kibosh any science experiment I have going on. I'm still waiting for the time he goes for a walk so I can bake cookies
He watches the kitchen like a hawk! But I'll def keep that in mind for future.
I didn't take anything after I had the yoghurt but my stomach did feel a bit different to me and I thought I was imagining it or was coming down with something. I guess the more I eat the more this will lessen?
Thats what I was looking at the probiotic yoghurt for - to help with the bloat. Often when I eat, I bloat...regardless of foods. When its white foods, I bloat even more
I think I may stick to plain yoghurt and try the probiotic capsules/chewable form if I can find them.
Thanks for your input everyone!
Hoping for a less bloated Libby!
