    Default Dug up a dinosaur

My cpu died when I was posting here earlier. One second I was typing, and the next you were all gone. So what did DH do? He went into our "junk" room and took the old cpu from the old computer and hooked it up to the newer one. And to think I've been harping on him to let me get rid of that junk. We don't use the second computer at all. It's strange using Windows 2000. I'll never be able to throw anything away now.

It's always great when something can be fixed by something we have laying around! My dh collects junk too...drives me nuts! But, every now and then a piece of his junk will fix one of my treasures.

Wow, that would have caused me to go into withdrawl if all of a sudden FV was not longer assessible.

Great that your husband could fix your computer easily.

Must admit I have a vcr and tv converter box in storage just in case. Still need to get a good antenna for the converter box.

Glad you could get it fixed and still not cost anything. I bet that was a MAJOR relief. Good for both of you. The hard drive went out here at hubby's work and we could not only get a new one but upgrade it to 500 for $90.
    Thank God

My keyboard died recently. So I went into the spare room and got the keyboard from hubby's old non-working computer. I was back in business in no time and no money spent! I bought two of the same model on Amazon a while back when they were on sale, used two $25 gift certificates, and got free shipping.

A similar thing happened with my mouse. I had purchased my mouse because I liked hubby's. He upgraded to a wireless mouse. When my mouse died after years of use, I got his old one. Again, hardly any down time and no extra money spent. Same model; so no getting used to a new mouse.

I have found it helpful to buy the same items for both computers. That way the items are interchangeable between computers. Hubby is notorious for upgrading for no other reason then he wants the latest and greatest (it is a guy thing mostly). Luckily his cousin can get him these things at a great price.

I am perfectly happy to keep using what I have. It works, I am familiar with it, and it is paid for. When he upgrades parts on his computer, he usually puts the old item in my computer. It is an upgrade for me.

Example - I FINALLY let hubby build me a new computer about a year ago because mine was dying. I was still using Windows 98! It worked for me and was paid for. I saw no reason to upgrade until I needed a new computer.

All of our computers were built from parts, mostly from machines that were given to us by friends who upgraded. At one job, when the company went under they let DH bring all the office computers home. We had parts out the wazoo. A few years ago another friend bought a pallet of monitors. I think there were 15 or 20 of them, he only wanted one or two and gave us the rest. DH has done a great job salvaging them over the years. Saved us a ton of money.

Unfortunately we still have 8 computer cases and 6 monitors in the garage, and this is after we have taken two carloads of old computer stuff to Goodwill this month. Be glad you've only got one old computer sitting around.
