I was 'shocked' to find out that the company my dh works for, everything is made in China. You can't really avoid it so to say.

I only have a problem on a certain level and don't mind buying outside of the US. Pretty much what Monkeywrangler posted.

Buying local is always a good idea, as your spending is a direct influx of your cash into your local economy.

Import/export is always going to be around and it needs to be. Think of Columbus and the spices he brough back to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. The spices were what they wanted, but didn't have in Spain, but they were available in india. This is a bit obscure, but I'm trying to show you that things you may not be available or abundant in our country, but may be over abundant in another country.

Free trade is part of what put us upside down. Years ago, we used to be a tariff (or trade protected) nation and were a trade surplus. Why do you think we can get electronics so cheaply? No tarriff on imports and dirt cheap labor/ child labor from other countries.
    It is what it is.

I received the same e-mail. I always try to buy products made in the USA but, unfortunately some of the products we need...aren't made here anymore.

I certainly hope that everyone in America doesn't do this. The company that I work for transports goods made outside the US (mainly produce, but some other non-food items). If everyone refused to eat or drink foods that didn't originate in the US, I'd be out of a job!

Oh, I doubt a movement like this would have such a dramatic effect on the trade disparity other countries enjoy.
There is just not enough steam ( from what I have seen) to actually gain any traction.
