Memories of My Grandma
My grandma died yesterday morning at 6 a.m. after living 80 years. She became a born again Christian in her early twenties and lived her entire life to serve the Lord.
I wrote a little something about my grandma that I wanted to share...
My earliest memories of Grandma are of me sitting in her lap, her holding me in her arms and singing children’s songs such as “You are My Sunshine” and “The Teddy Bear Picnic.” I remember gazing up into her face as she sang the songs and being happy that she was my grandma.
I’ve always felt loved by both of my grandparents. Grandma always made sure that us grandchildren were spoiled…especially with love. She would have me come over for sleepovers and make sure that the entire time with them was wonderful. She and Grandpa would tell me how special I was and how much they loved me.
Everything she did was either fancy or festive. My grandparents would have my sister and I come over at Christmas and help them decorate their tree and house. I’m not sure if we were really helping or in the way, but they always made us feel like we were helping.
Grandma would make delicious food at every occasion…even if it was just a sleepover. She and Grandpa would bring me breakfast in bed almost every time I slept over.
I remember rollerblading with my teenage friends from the park to their house, and they always opened their home to us and gave us a snack. They are the most hospitable couple I’ve ever known.
Grandma and Grandpa loved to play games. My husband and I have many memories of going over to their house in the evenings and sitting down to games of UNO and Skip-Bo. Grandma had a very sharp mind and was an excellent player. She was always a hard one to beat.
I missed a few years of precious time with them when we moved away, but when we came back to my hometown over two years ago I tried to make up for lost time. Her body was quickly deteriorating, but her determination and will continued. She and I would sing hymns together in her nursing home room, and she would amazingly remember every word of every hymn.
The last words I whispered into her ear while she lay hours away from entering Heaven's gates were, "Good-bye, Grandma. I love you. I'll see you in Heaven."
I miss my grandma, but I am confident that her spirit and strength lives on in each family member and in the lives that she touched. I will forever be grateful that she was my grandma. An obstacle is what comes up when you lose sight of your goal.

It's so hard to say goodbye to the ones we love. No doubt that your grandma (& grandpa) will be sorely missed
But it sounds like they left behind some wonderful memories for you. I bet too that there's a whole bunch of things you've learned from them and can put into your own life, making even more memories
I'm happy that you had such wondeful grandparents.
Hugs to you and your family!

That brought tears to my eyes. I'm so sorry for your loss. Your Grandma sounds awesome! Next week on Jan. 28th is the anniversary of my favorite Grandma's death and eventhough it's been five years, I'm having a really hard time of it. She was the bright light in my life and I miss her so much and always will. I thank God often for letting her be my Grandma. He blessed me so much by doing that! I whispered the same thing to my Grandma, as you did to yours, during her last few hours of life and told her to meet me at the Eastern Gate of heaven so she'd know where to look and I'd know specifically where to go to get back up with her. I can't wait til the day when I arrive and see her smiling at me there! She's going to get the biggest hug ever!!!!

Losing your grandma was tough and I am sorry. I lost mine in 2007 to cancer and ravage her body and I cry for her almost everyday.
