Job Interview is it worth it?
i have been on unemployment since may
they said i have another extension after this week usually 6 weeks
i got 2 calls today on interviews
and i was excited at first but now im wondering if its worth it?
my back ground consist or admin/office/ recently acct rec/ accts payable/purchasing
i havent been called but twice before
i got an interview with the supreme court but it was part time with no benefits, no chance of promotion and no raises..i would be in the hold after babysitter and gas so i passed it up
i got a call the other day asking to be there in 2 hours for interview, i asked if i could get better notice for say thursday or friday and he said no they were only interviewing that day so i told him good luck
i got 2 calls today ghat im kind of excited about..but if the pay is $11.00 (which one of the states that) the other doesnt say
thats im guessing after taxes $345.00 then babysitter for 2 $150.00
gas probably $40 a week so im looking at take home with out benefits, which we need. i will bring home $155.00 which is actually $6 shy of what i bring home from unemployment.
is it even worth it going?
my other question is
i sent my resume off to several mostly anything that was for office..and i sent one off and i dont know why i did. most of the qualifications were basic but they asked for some estimating and sales experience but i dont have any and my resume doesnt show that i do...why did he call? should i bother with that interview?
thanks..im glad there is a some where i can go and ask my questions

How many more extensions do you have? If this is your last, then I would consider taking the job and continue looking for something better.

I say go. What will it hurt?
I can only see benefits from going on interviews.
Interviews can be difficult for some people so the more practice you have the better for when that "perfect" job does come along. And you never know where an interview may lead. You may make a great impression on someone and although the job they are offering you now may not be what you want, they may remember you for a future job.
And you can always ask for more money, more benefits etc. If its not a job that your heart is set on getting, then what will it hurt and it will give you more confidence in asking for what you want.
Experience is priceless.Judy

Im in the same position now basically. All the offers for interviews I am getting are for jobs that pay significantly less then I would make on unemployment. However having said that there have been some interviews that have been promising - the recruiter said they'd keep me on file for something better suited for me going forward. I seemed to be too qualified for a receptionist. If anything, I networked and got in some interview practice time/skills. Plus it keeps you 'current' with what people are looking for these days.
If you can afford it, go for the interview just for those factors - practice and networking. They may be calling you for one position but you may get offered another better suited for you instead. What have you got to lose?2012: The Year Of The Purge!

Don't you risk losing you benefits if you turn down an interview? I know when I file my claim every two weeks it specifically asks me if I refused or failed to report for any interview during that time.
I'd go just to be sure I didn't lose my benefits.S

Rule of thumb: Almost always go on interviews - you never know what they could lead to.
If you don't go, they will lead nowhere. If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I'm glad you went to the interview. Is the company stable, and the benefits good? If so, it may be well worth considering, especially if you would have job security in a bad economy. Think farther into the future than just the next 6 weeks-12 weeks. Will this be a good company to work for long term?
My dh used to make $75k a year (commission-based, business crashed with the economy), and now has a FT job that pays $9.65 per hour to start (2 raises possible in first year, will be more like $11/hour soon). But, he has a wonderful benefit package, will have many advancement opportunities, and works for an extremely stable company. He's "starting over" ground floor in a new field, this is his 2nd career change. Sometimes the company is more important than your starting wage.

I would go to the interview. If you can get off unemployment because you can find a job then I would do it because there are so many people right now needing unemployment because they cannot find a job. JMO.

Have to agree with going on as many interviews as possible. Especially to get used to the whole interview process and you never know what can happen.
Once I went on three different interviews with three different departments within a company that I knew was really good to work at with incredible benefits. Stuck it out during the interviews and ended up working there.
Good to hear you went on the interview.
