If you remember Olestra (WOW Chips) it gives you the same reaction. That being said, I do have a friend who used Alli successfully to the tune of 45#.

I had thought about it a few weeks ago when the coupons and sales from cvs made it pretty cheap but I googled reviews for it online first. In the reviews quite a few people lost weight but most did have the diarreah and gas problems but there were also alot that got diverticulitis and some liver problems. After all the diverticulitis diagnosis that were there in early 30 and some younger women, I decided I would skip it and keep with the regular diet and excercise. Down 10 pounds from the first of the year and I am not afraid of not making it to the bathroom.

I heard it does work. Someone i Know lost 30 pounds, but if you eat just a tiny bit over the fat content it says, you will have nasty bathroom visits. What some don't understand is all this stuff you take goes right through to your liver, pancreas ect. Your body can get use to the stuff and when you do stop it, Your weight gain is back + some you didnt have. I log all my foods on to sparkspeople.com It a site that tracks all food your eating. You put in how much you weigh, what your goal is, how long hard you wanna work on getting it off, then it will break down what colories, fat, carbs, protiens you need a day.Really makes you think before grabbing that snack you really don't need.

people or things.

that's what I am doing too. I really like that site. My hardest part though is trying to eat healthier while the family still wants me to do all my baking and meals that I usually cook.

Hey scrap. I know its hard, But i was just sick of having the extra weight on me. I still make the meals for the family, Heaven for bid if i should put a pc of fish on hubs plate. By following the site, listing all my food and drinks. you really see where those calories are coming from. What you need to let go of and replace with a healthy food or drink. After awhile it becomes part your everyday routine. I ate dinner tonight and logged it already. Had 2 pc's of baked fish,Broccli and carrots. Bottle of water. After logging my breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus my snack and a cup of coffee. I till have plenty of points in my calories, fat, carb, protien for a nice healthy snack around 7 tonight. Im on a 1500 calorie a day diet, you can eat a good amount of foods.

Thanks for this thread. I don't think I would want to try this after hearing about the "nasty" side effects of it.

nana they put my range at 1200-1550 and a few days I have went over but not by much. Today I have already planned and logged all my food and I will be at 1247 with dessert and a later snack planned, so the food tracker really helps. I logged it all early yesterday and looking back today, I never ate the snack last night or the baked sweet potato so I only ended at 1179 which put me under for the day and I had walked 2 miles, but I was so full I couldn't eat any more. I have drank nothing but water since Jan 1st. (gave up a 6 can a day coke classic habit!) and all that water makes me feel like I am floating.
My thing is I change some things I cook and use substitutions to make them healthier, but after belonging here awhile I bake alot of our bread and snacks and it's so hard for me to bake that stuff that I know I will want but have a hard time staying away from, so I just don't. Then the family is mad because they are wanting it. I have never made whole wheat bread before but I may try that this week, but oh how I love homemade bread hot with butter!Last edited by scrap_candles; 01-23-2010 at 11:23 AM. Reason: typo

Normally I don't either but when I know what I am fixing for dinner and it may be a higher cal item, if I log in what I plan to eat I can see if I am in my range. Too many days last week going over. Now I can see if I need to make adjustments somewhere and if I don't eat something, like my banana this morning I can just click the remove food button on the tracker. That has been so useful for me. I can see if I am low on protein, fiber or too high in fats and make adjustments. I just hope I can lose the next 40# as quickly as the first 11!

Good glad things are working for you. I have lost around 18 pounds give or take a pound or 2. For my height im suppose to be 98 to 105 im only 5 foot small frame, but to me that is way to skinny for myself and i look sick.I think i will stick with the 115 to 120 mark. I have a goal by my birthday in June i will be down where i want to be. That gives me almost 5 months..

A little late to the party (story of my life LOL)....but my sister tried Alli when it first came out. Bad news. She was told by her employer that she had to quit taking it or risk losing her job because she was in the bathroom all the time. For some people, the repeated bathroom visits are just not enough motivation to stop eating the fats.
I'm sorry, but read the side effects before taking any diet pill. Any pill with side effect like "anal seepage", "oily flatulence", "frequent oily stools", "urgent voiding"....bad news. And your body NEEDS a certain amount of fat to function properly. Not a huge amount, but it does need it in a certain quantity.

IF you read all the instructions/paperwork, you are supposed to eat a low fat diet. If you take Alli and eat a high fat meal, you WILL have consequences!
Hubby and I started taking it over a month ago. We started with dinner on Friday and Saturday nights only. That way we were at home and could "deal" with any consequences. There were little to no consequences when we ate healthy low fat meals.
We are now taking it twice a day (lunch and dinner) 7 days a week. Hubby has lost 7 pounds and I have lost 3.
Everything, even natural things, CAN have reactions/side affects. Alli is not a miracle weight loss drug that will take the weight off without any effort on your part. IF you eat high fat foods, Alli will do what is advertised!Mary
