Yes, dry mustard and water, maybe add a little vinegar.

It will be remarkably more spicy then they bought kind. Also, the bought kind is a LOT cheaper.

The recipe used to be on the side of the tin of mustard powder - but last time I looked was about 30 years ago, so they might not put it on any more. I think it's basically 1-1 with powder and water. It will be really, really hot though.

I go through a lot of dry mustard in various recipes, it is significantly cheaper to buy out of the bulk bin than in the tins.

I used ground mustard seeds and mustard powder and mixed them with a liquid. The first time I made mustard that liquid was Wassail and I let the seeds soak over night. I then ground it in either my food processor or blender and added some salt and sugar to taste. It turned out really good.

A month ago I tried making Alton Brown's Best Mustard Ever.... and it wasn't. It was bitter and runny. Check online for some recipes and if you like the ingredients it lists you may find one you'll like. I tend to read other peoples comments on recipes to see if it is worth trying.

Mustard will be very strong when first made but mellows with room temperature. When it mellows to suit your tastes then put it in the fridge and the mellowing process will stop.
