Why do people
drive like idiots in the rain? It has been raining like crazy all this week. So I'm driving my grandaughter to school and all the roads are flooded. I have seen so many people driving so fast that they have had near misses. Plus when the roads are like that and the cars are going to fast the splash the water up and over the cars they pass making it dangerous. Good thing my son is going to pick her up and she has nop school tomorrow. I like the rain but I don't like driving in it. I still have to go to the Drs tonight.

Simple answer: those drivers are the idiots and their insurance rates should be quadrupled. There is no need to drive like that especially on flooded roads or in heavy weather - fog, rain, snow etc....no one is invincible but those driver think they are.

Just drive the best you can and feel comfortable with, those idiots will go around you. I'd rather you show up late then never.2012: The Year Of The Purge!

I'm told I drive like a soccer mom. Just another compliment. We call it hive or ant syndrome. When people know it's going to rain they start buzzing around and hurry back home. BZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Imarachne all I can say to that is I made it this far and I have a long ways to go.70 at least lol. My #2 son says the way I drive my car will out last his.... mine is a 93 and his is a 04.
My big sister canm't drive in the snow. We were om our way to ND because our mother passed and it was her turn to drive mind you I drove CA, NV,AZ,UT and part of ID. She didn't even drive 30 miles. It had been raining, snowing with blowing ice. She decided to use cruse control. Well she stepped on the brake to take it off and lost control of the van. She put us down a 30ft embankment. That was scary. School bus saw us go off the road and called it in.We were told we should have rolled. we didn't. We were helped and put back on the road and off we went.

You should see how they drive in the SNOW, fernykins!

Sometimes a little sports car will pass me like I'm standing still, and then further up the road, I will see the same car spun out off the road, in a snow bank.
I always stop to see if they've called for help and are OK, but MAN! I'm not going nearly that fast, and I have 4 wheel drive, people! Get a clue!
I'm an old lady too. Experience has taught us well.______

I think many have forgotten that driving is a PRIVILEGE & comes with responsibilities. Its easy to slip up from time to time & make a mistake. However, the kind of driving I see daily is just scary. Speeding, running stop signs (slowing down & almost stopping doesn't count), parking on the wrong side of the road to check mailbox (head on collision just waiting to happen) & not paying attention are way to common! The weather seems of little concern to many drivers in my area. They drive the same way no matter what is going on around them. Honestly, why are they in such a hurry? Rushing through life is no way to live. You don't get a prize for getting there first! I wish others got that.

UGH! We had rain this morning and I thought of this thread. I was driving to the eye dr to pick up DS's glasses and we saw a car that had spun around, jumped the sidewalk and hit the sound wall on the drivers side!! (facing traffic). Scary!! At least it looked like they walked out.

I think people don't realize how important it is to change your driving for the weather conditions. Maybe they've never experienced anything scary during a heavy rainstorm, or hit black ice, or gotten stuck in the snow.
I don't wish harm to anyone, but somehow it makes me feel a little better when I see some hotshot driver passing me on the freeway when I'm doing 50 (and it's snowing like mad, slush on the roadway, poor visibility) and I see them off the road a few miles up ahead. I'm mean, I know.

I'd be happy if they just started to drive sensibly on dry streets in the sun. Driving sensibly in bad weather is probably too much to hope for.

I live in New England, snow happens... a LOT. Without fail, the first snow of the season (usually end of September) brings on news reports of spin-outs and pile-ups. Come on!!! You forgot how to control a car in 5 months?????
