Worried about his job today
Hiya Everyone
First off, before anyone thinks the worst-- he's physically safe (as far as I know) but he's working today, which is why I am worried about him...
Today is not 'business as usual'. He came home very late last night because he was talking to one of the managers (still no word about the promotion, but all other managers think he's going to get it).
A very special work order came in for today and ALL the managers (4 levels) agreed to send the Old Man to do it because he was voted the best Tech in the office.
Not only would he have to fix whatever isn't working but they want him to defuse an issue with the best friend of the VP of the company and was one of the first big investors (He works for a large satellite company, but I won't mention which one).
This best friend is already furious because they had no reception for over 8 hours (oh boo-hoo, people can go a few days) and has been threatening to cancel
So, this can go two ways... a) Old Man does a spectacular job and the client is very happy or b) the issue is beyond what he can fix and the client is very unhappy.
If that wasn't enough pressure... yesterday there was an incident with another customer. He was doing an installation when the office sent one of the new guys to 'help' (in other words, the new guy needs pointers and they sent him to watch the Old Man).
The new guy got verbal with the customer (mind you, the work was done in the Old Man's code, so any complaints would go on HIS record).
If that wasn't enough, (and it's no excuse but, he's been up since 4:30am at that point) when they left that job at around 9pm, Old Man jumped in to his van and started to drive off... he got about half way up the street when he remembered he forgot a part so he went back to get it.
The new guy ran it over!!! It's a $300 part and Old Man HAS to turn it in... if he gets written up, he will lose his chance at the promotion since you can't have a write up in the 90 days before. He even offered to pay for a new one and turn THAT one in. He's never been written up the entire time he's been there, but that won't matter.
The new guy may have ran it over, but it will fall back on him because he didn't do a 'walk-around' the van before he left... neither did the new guy.
-- Old Man may have forgotten to walk-around the van and drove away forward with the dish at the BACK of his van... but the new guy drove forward with the dish at the FRONT of his van. How the heck do you not SEE a satellite dish if you are driving AT it???
So... that's where I am now, nervous about what happens at work today. Thank you for reading all of this.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

It never rains but it pours. Here's hoping that he manages well today. I'm sure he'll do his best, but other people's reactions are beyond our control. Maybe the other things will smooth over too. It sounds like he is very competent and well-respected by everyone. They've probably all had horrible weeks like this too.
Sorry it's been such an uneasy time for both of you.Donna

How frustrating. All you can do now is move forward. You know he does a good job and support him in that. Hopefully things will be ok.

Sounds like you have a DH that does his job with pride, honesty and integrity. Hoping all of the dust settles and his promotion comes through.
Thinking good thoughts for you.It is what it is.

UPDATE: the repair at 'best friend' house went as well as he could. The customer signed off saying the job was done to satisfaction. Old Man later found out that Corporate called to talk to the someone at his office about it... so that part is done!
We still don't know what will happen about the part the other guy ran over. He is due to start work again at 6am on Wednesday.
