Does putting hair up really make one cooler?

My mom always is telling me not to pull up my daughters hair( when its old out ), because it will make her colder.
My daughter has major curls .. and brushing it once a day to keep the tangles out is .. Oh nearly impossible.. since she uses her head a lot her hair in the back almost ends up matted.
Shhhhh.. today i got all the rats out ( with the help of a touch of vo5 ) and put her hair into a pony in the back ...of course a good bit is coming out and its a small pony.. but no rats yay

i used to have freakishly long hair. I put it up for tangle prevention. if i left it down i would have mats underneath my neck at the end of the day. no she won't be cold.

No she won't be colder. To appease your Mother, tell her that she wears a scarf.

I find that in the summer if I put my hair up so it is off my neck I am a lot cooler. I have to use a lot of conditioner to keep my hair from ratting up because it is so fine. Have you tried detanglers?

When I was little I had thick, curly, hair that I could sit on. I "required" that it be pulled up at all times. It was just too much of a hassle to have it down. If she gets cold, put a scarf or something on her.

I have very thick straight hair that I can almost sit on.
I keep it up or back 90% of the time, and always while I am working.
I will say that I noticed a huge difference in whether my hair was up or down when I would ride my motorcycle. When my hair was down it was like having a scarf on, when it was up I was definately colder and wished I had a scarf on.
However, do what is best for you. If your daughter is colder, keep her hair up and put a scarf on her. I sure wouldn't want to take tangles out of my daughter hair all of the time to appease her grandparents. My daughter had fine thick very wavy hair when she was little, and would throw a fit when I tried to brush tangles out, so I can imagine what you are dealing with.

She is under 2 y.o. so the hair she has is hard to contain, While having it in a pony today ia good portion of it came out.. however it helped. Grandmom has yet to see .. so tommorrow may be interesing.* shrugs*
She didn't act any different except when she looked in the mirror.
I get fussed at for using conditioner in her hair.. my mom wants me to use her baby bath wash ( which states for hair on her hair) but she NEEDS the conditioning. I usually put Vo5 on her hair a good dolp then brush it out , then wash it if i am going to use the bathwash it helps to keep it from getting so dry. I think it may be time to watch for suave kids on sale.
I have tried the detangler spray.. it actually seemed to make the situation worse, once the hair was brushed out then it caused the rats to be worse. Last time she took a shower and got out she HAD to have some mousse so i have her a drop on her finger to run through her hair but that only got on the front part of her hair.
Yeah she sits there and says owwie and no * sighs * .. i have started telling her Tinkerbell is helping fight off the rats or wow that was a big rat did you see it run out the door and she will look to see .. then i tell her i think we scared that one off for good and she will grin.. because my mom always uses she has rats in her hair and pretends that they are running down her back as she gets rid of them *lol* same tactic she used when i was little something to divert attention away from the scalp.

My neck is always cold since I cut my hair really short. I have to have it short because of acne issues, or I'd go back to the way things used to be.

wouldn't it be simpler to cut it into a cute bob?

See the picture above that is from this spring july i believe ... when i wake her in the morning her curls are tight to her head. When i brush them out they puff out but then they go back into tight ringlets. I am afraid if i get her hair cut in a bob it wouldn't be cute.. i am hoping it will grow out enough to not stay so tight .. i keep hoping now when she gets a shower its below her shoulder blades.

do you know the "curly girl" routine?
wash with suave aloe and waterlily conditioner - use a lot and scrub. no shampoo, except maybe once a week if you have conditioner biuldup (hair will feel crunchy if conditioner buildup)
use a pick rather than a brush or comb and finger detangle first. my hair was fine and curly just like hers and i could sit on it.11% gross to retirement

I think that the water has something to do with the dryness of her hair .. that may be a good idea.

dd#3 was always curly, I was so thankful when her hair grew longer - it was actually easier to manage than when it was shorter( too poofy). When it grew long enough, I put it in a ponytail that was one little sausage curl. She's 17 now & still curly & keeps it pulled back & out of her face (her hair is waist length now). She's afraid that if she were to ever get it cut, she would look like Bozo the clown (as she told me,lol)

I put my hair up more in the summer and it does keep me cooler so it makes sense that it would be cold in the winter. That being said I (and my 2 year old) wear scarves if we are going to be outside in the winter with our hair up.
Unless she's just outside in the cold for a long period of time I doubt it will hurt.

Tonight after letting her hair dry from showering .. it seemed to curl tighter then it has in a while.. Ugh.. i tried the washing with just conditioner this time to see what it would do
many houseapes~ Yeah the bozo look is so out *rotfl* ... when i brush my daughters hair out it poofs sometimes turning into the bozo look .. * sighs*
MandaRenee~ Thats what i tell my mom, but she is determined it will make her cold .. So i am like okay we put an exra shirt on her she will be fine *lol* or a turtle neck which she usually wears anyway since its cold.
