I applied on a job
at a grocery store about 45 mins to an hour from here. Highway driving. Its the biggest grocery store around here. I decided to apply there (two towns away) because my aunt works there and I could get back and forth to work with her and just pay 1/2 gas or even less.
Its part time, but she is getting anywhere from 30-40 hours a week, last week she got 33. Its 9.50 to start which is minimum wage here but that goes up in July to 10 dollars an hour. Also it is unionized so there are .15 cent raises every 500 hours.
I did my interview on the 21st and that went great, I just had to wait for my criminal check to be done which she said takes a day or two. She told me I should know by Monday if I have the job or not.
DH is still laid off so he will be taking care of the kids while I work.
I am really hoping that this works, but this will be the first time that I have been in the work force in 4 years.
Just wondering if anyone has any advice?Kelly

You will be fine. Just remind yourself that you do not need to know everything on the first day!!! Don't be afraid to ask questions.
I remember having a job at a supermarket. Imagine my surprise after 30 days I received a raise!!

Good luck on getting the job. Hope everything works out well for you. Minimum wage is 9.50 and going up to 10.00 in Canada? Good for you! Here in Ohio it is 7.35.

Kelly, I've got my fingers crossed for you! A union job offers a lot more security then one that's not, I really hope you've got great news to share with us tomorrow!

Good Luck!! I have only ever worked in a grocery store. I was always getting promotions. I went from Cashier, to file maintenance, to receiver, to night manager. Then I moved so I had to quit but now I am the cake decorator. Thats the thing I love about grocery stores is there are SO many positions available to you!! You will love it, I am sure!

Good luck to you, Kelly
I hope you get the job, as a start. It would be great if they give employee's discount for grocery & other purchases.
