    Default Question.......

Does anyone ever use those iron patches on clothes? You know the kind that you use to patch over a hole? Do they work? Do they work if you put them on the inside of clothing?

My dh has several pairs of pants/jeans that have a small hole in the butt where he has torn the corner of his pocket loose. I was thinking I would buy some of those patches and iron them on on the inside then try to sew the corner of the pocket back to that.

Also, I'm throwing my ds a birthday party on Monday. They have an at home ballgame that night so I'm going to give all the boys on the team an invite to stay after school that day and I will feed them all plus the two coaches. With his b-day being in Feb. he rarely ever gets to do anything special because of the weather. All of his friends are on the team so I thought that would be a good way to do a party. How many hot dogs would you do for each boy? I'm thinking two each since they do have to play a game later on LOL. Would you do just mustard and ketchup or do chili, slaw and onions too? I'm having the local deli do the food for me. It's in the town where the school is so he can fix it and bring it up there hot for me. He's giving me an awesome deal on it too.

Also on the invite is it ok to put " this is for the boys basketball team and coaches ONLY"? Alot of the kids stay after school when there is a game and wander around town. I don't want other kids, girlfriends, brothers and sisters, etc. there.

If the weather is bad and I have to cancel Monday then I'm thinking of doing it on Thursday. They have another game, but only one that night and the girls team has one too. Should I invite the girls team if I have it that night??

I used the iron-on patches a lot when my kids were growing. DD#1 seemed to wear through her jeans as soon as she put them on! I ironed them on, then zigzagged around the patch.

How many hot dogs does DS eat at a time. That should give you a figure to start from. And since it's a party, I go whole hog on the condiments.

I would specify team and coaches on the invite.

The iron ons work OK. If you put them on the outside they do need to be zigzagged or something because they start rolling up. It might work for your application.

My ds can eat 3 or 4 hot dogs on a normal night. But I don't let him eat that many right before a basketball game. I make him stop at two and then eat after the game if he's still hungry. Don't want them upchucking on the court during the game LOL!

Could I sew through the patch to get the corner of the pocket back on? Or are the patches too hard to sew through like that? I bought him a brand new pair of camo cargo pants for Christmas and he's already got the corner of that pocket torn loose and a hole in the pants right there!

I always used TWO patches, one inside and on on the outside. And use plenty of STEAM when you iron it on - like a really wet washcloth as a pressing cloth.

Leftover hot dogs when feeding teenagers? I can't even wrap my mind around leftovers 'cause my kids are swimmers, and there are not enough calories in the WORLD to feed that empty pit!!! Sound like they'll have a great time!!

The "average" patch is not going to be that hard to sew through. Some of the heavy duty ones may be a challenge but still workable.

I have also hemmed my jeans with the strips of fusible tape that you iron on with steam. Have not had any problems with the tape coming undone. Also maybe easier to sew through. All you need to do is cut the tape to the length you want. Place on the inside of the jeans then use something like a piece of cotton to iron on the top of the fusible tape.

I'm not going to be able to answer all your questions but here goes:

The patches work great inside (tacky side towards the cloth, not the skin). They hold up better than on the outside.

As far as "two dogs per person", I would want sides besides chips. Salad - potato, fruit, etc?

It's perfectly acceptable to limit who can come to the party that you are catering.

Grrrrrrr! I spoke to the coach and he told me to bring the invites to him last night at the game and he'd give them out. Ds took them in the locker room to him and he didn't pass them out to anyone! So I gave ds orders to get them from the coach and pass them out himself tonight.

I am going to do two hot dogs, chips and a drink per person. I am not doing other sides because they have to play in a game that night. I am not going to fill them up on food and then have them puking during the game. That doesn't benefit anyone.
