Anyone know anything about taxes?
DH made $9000 last year, and they took $900 our for federal. I only made like $600 for the year if that and they maybe took like $60 out. We don't have deductions or anything like that...we keep doing our stuff on the tax calculator and it says around $2000 back. How is that possible if they did not even take that much out?! DH claimed 1 and I claim 0. I am not sure what they mean but thats what I was always told to claim, lol. We file married.
Anyone have any idea???

I don't know all the details, but I do know that there is a Earned Income Credit for low income people. Basically, extra money back for those who did work, but didn't earn much. My suspicion is that's what's making your refund higher than what they took out. If you do qualify for the credit, that's awesome...put the money to good use!

I did not work at all last year except this December! I hope that this is really the case!

Even if you don't have children you can qualify for EIC if you or your husband are 25 or older and make below a certain amount of income. Your taxable income is $0 for such a low income. The EIC depends on your income and that could be where you are getting the extra money from. There is also a work credit for $800 for married couples ($400 for singles) if one or both of you worked.
From looking at the numbers you posted on the first post, you should be getting at least $1760 from federal.Last edited by militlady; 01-30-2010 at 03:50 AM. Reason: more info

You and DH probably qualify for the free edition, and it'll figure out the EIC and other credits for you.If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Well the sooner you get filed, the faster you'll get your refund. From what I hear, each week's deadline is Thursday, and for direct deposit, the refund is Monday a week later. Checks take longer.
Course with your bank...maybe a check would be better...If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

I am so happy!! DH and I have been getting some paper from WV state tax saying we owe then $500 and we know we don't. We have been arguing for weeks about it. They finally realized they messed up and owe us $26 bucks and they will pay interest on it to because we were suppose to get this last year. So yey #1.
Yey #2--I got my W2 online today and DH has his so we did it on the online calculators and they are saying $2400!!
Yey #3--DH's mom is doing our taxes tonight which means we will prolly get it in like a week!!
Yey #4--We might be moving in 4 weeks instead of 6 because we have most of the money we need for the apartment saved up already, and then we want to take a few hundred from the tax money for the rest!
Yey #5--DH is searching for a more reliable vehicle for us with the rest of the tax money.
Yey #6--I finished my $1000 Efund!!!
WOOO HOoO!!!!!
