What do I need for my apartment???
I have a lot of stuff, but I am trying to think if there are other things I need/should have for the bathroom, bedroom (2 of them---one will just be a storage room til we can get a bed for it), kitchen, dining room, living room.
Thanks all!

Need?
Or Want?
Remember - you have a budget and a game plan. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that more space means you NEED to spend money for more stuff.
Fix the important stuff first. There will be time later to add the fluff. If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Well it really depends on what you already have...

I'd opt to move and then see what you really 'need'. One person's need is another person's want. I 'need' chopsticks in my kitchen, do you? See what I'm trying to say?
It's great that you're saving up for things you'll 'need' but I'd still wait and see. Having that money now ensures you will have it later, right?2012: The Year Of The Purge!

Cutting board (not really even)
Basic knives/utensils
hot pads(could use towels)
just basic bowls, cups and plates
Don't go crazy on kitchen gadgets. You don't need them.
Bathroom.... a few towels, personal stuff, and that's it.
I agree with Libby.
It's hard to just list stuff.

I agree with many of the items already listed. It's exciting to be able to get new things, even if they are needs. I will be moving to South Carolina in Aug and because it's a fresh start, I am going to be getting the basics all over again.
I am going to keep it basic to start off with.
Pots and pans: I will probably just go to Walmart to get mine. They are cheaper. I'm not Rachel Ray, so I can do with a basic set. :-)
Dishes. Again, I will probably go to Walmart. You can get some nice, complete dish sets there. The same for glasses and silverwear
If you have the extra money, get those basics you don't want to run out of: Trash bags, dish detergent, rags, paper towels......

I would move in what I have and organize it. If you go looking for an appliance or tool for the 3rd time in a short period of time and nothing can be substituted for that appliance/tool, you may then have a need for that appliance/tool.

I agree with some of the others. Having moved 100 times I know how expensive a trip to the store for just a new mop, broom and bucket can get.
Just move in, keep the money in the bank and then buy only what you find you really need. If you need it, you'll know it. The stores aren't going anywhere.
I can relate this situation to preparing for a new baby...you could spend thousands on everything others say you "need" just to find out all you NEEDED was a few outfits, some diapers, a crib and a car seat.
Congrats on the move!!

Congratulations on Moving!!!
I started planning on moving out on my own a good 2 years before I actually did it. I ended up with plenty of some things and nothing of others.
If you haven't moved out yet, I would start looking for my consumables when they were on sale. Stuff you know without a doubt that you will be using. Paper towels, toilet paper, a broom from the dollar store. Some cleaning rags and cleaning supplies.
I would also start checking thrift shops for furniture. You know your going to need a couch, maybe a chair and a TV stand if you don't already have those.
When I first moved out I bought some mix matched plates, but in a standard theme from thrift shops. I have all green plates, cups and saucers, but they were different styles and patterns. They worked well and looked good. Later I realized that I could use the nice sets that I have and re-donated the ones I bought.
How about building up your food staples as the items are on sale to get ready for the move? You'll have enough last minute expenses with the move. Not having to worry about groceries for a week or two will be nice.
Good luck, I know how happy the move is going to make you!
