We carry $1000 deductibles. Not sure how much it saves us, because that's what we have always had. But I can tell you we carry full coverage, high limits, for two adults age 36 and 37, and a 16 year old daughter on two vehicles and we pay $760 every six months with Geico.

Well I can tell you that when I was playing with limits and deductibles on progressive.com, from 250 to 500 only saved about $35, and then from 500 to 1000 was around $45. I actually used to carry the 1000 deductible, but when we moved to FL I heard stories of mass amounts of uninsured drivers and rearranged my limits and set my deductible at 500 instead. The amount you save by adjusting yours is going to depend on a lot of factors (so says my MIL to be anyway). Does your insurance company have a web site where you can play with things like that? Most of the major ones seem to. I have a wealthy uncle that says to heck with coverage on his own vehicle, and he's saved thousands of dollars over the years....but of course the fip side is if he were to get into an accident and have to shell out money to buy a new vehicle. I think I'll keep my deductbles!

Edit: This was for a 6 mo. policy BTWLast edited by druthb00; 02-08-2010 at 08:37 PM. Reason: ambiguity :D

I do $250 deductibles because the difference between $250 & $500 was only $8 for one vehicle and under $20 for the other 2 vehicles for a six month term. Like the above poster stated the difference is going to depend on alot of different factors including the type & age of the vehicle. I don't do $1000 deduct because I wouldn't save all that much & I wouldn't want to have to come up with that much in case of an accident (I have 2 teen drivers & one has had 2 accidents in the past couple months
) One of the cars I have a $100 comp deduct because the difference was a whole $2 for a six month period, lol.
I also agree with the above poster about checking your ins co website to see if you can quote scenerios for your policy. I have Progressive & played with all the combinations on their website to see what was the best cvg for the price. If you can't check the rates on your ins co website try your agent & see if they can tell you what the different costs are.

We have a 1K deductible. Saves us approximately 53$ a month since we paid our insurance monthly.

We have a $1000 deductable too. I can't remember how much it saves us but I know I wouldn't have gotten one that high if it was only a couple of bucks a month.
I can say that I have found changeing our deductable hasn't helped as much as just plain shopping around and letting the insurance agent tell you how much of a deal they can get you with who.

We carry a $100 deductible on glass & $500 on collision...the savings between that and $1000 deductible was so minute I didn't even consider it.
