Default Hamburgers / Hotdogs without buns.

Does anyone have any meal ideas for hamburgers or hotdogs without buns. I usually would just toss them on buns but I don't have buns or bread right now. Plus we are snowed in so I can't possibly get buns/bread. Any ideas?

Slice hot dogs in half, put them on the bottom of a baking pan. Cover with mashed potatoes (and cheese if you want to). If you push the dogs close together, they fold up and start looking like a canoe. If you have corn bread mix, make the mix, cut the dogs in small bits and cook in muffin pan for a quick corn-dog.

Hamburgers can be cooked up and added to just about anything. Add them to mac & cheese and you have homemade Hamburger Helper. Break them up, cook them, add to rice or pasta with some sauce and cheese and you have pizza casserole.

You can cut hot dogs up in pork and beans to make Beanie Weinies. We also eat hot dogs and hamburgers just on a plate with ketchup. I fix them with sides like mac and cheese or fried potatoes and veggies.

When I have ground beef and want something different I make meatballs. Often meatballs with mushrooms in marsala sauce, but sometimes with tomato sauce. There's the old standyby: meatloaf.

With pre-made patties you can add mushrooms and gravy and call it Salisbury Steak. Another old standby.

Can you make your own buns? I make GF hot dog buns that are more biscuit-like than anything. I usually use folded bread too if I ran out of buns.

My favorite thing to do with hot dogs and no bun is to cut them into pieces and mix them with mac n cheese. Mmm...

this you can make without the buns in fact I have a recipe that is very similar without the buns called Chicago Dog salad.

NEW ENGLAND DOG AND SLAW BITES

    6 hot dogs
    2 tbsp butter divided
    hot dog buns
2 rounded tbsp sweet pickle relish
    2 rounded tbsp ketchup
    2 rounded tbsp mustard
    2 tbsp cider vinegar
    1 lb cabbage

Place dogs in a skillet with one inch of water pierce the hotdog casings and bring water to a simmer. Cook till done. drain and add one tbsp of butter to the pan. Melt butter and crisp the hotdogs. Remove the hotdogs and wipe pan. Add the other tbsp of butter and place split buns in pan to brown them.

While the dogs and rolls cook, mix relish, ketchup, mustard, and vinegar in a bowl and add the cabbage. Coat well with dressing and season with salt and pepper.

stuff dogs in rolls and top with mounds of slaw cut each dog into 3 pieces and serve.

you can make these without the buns just top the slaw with the dogs. tastes great either way.

Tortillas - the perfect emergency food. You can use them as a bread substitute 3-meals a day - including hot dogs, peanut butter and jelly, cut into wedges and used for chips, quesadillas, mini-pizzas...

    Do you have any Bisquick?

    Hot Dogs 'n' Crescents

    1-3/4 c. Bisquick
    1/3 c. milk

Heat oven to 425°F. Grease cookie sheet. Stir Bisquick and milk until soft dough forms; beat 30-seconds (by hand). Place dough on surface sprinkles with Bisquick (or flour); roll the dough in the Bisquick to coat. Shape into a ball; knead 10-times.

Roll or pat the dough into 13-inch circle; cut into 8 wedges. Roll each hot dog into one wedge, starting at the wide end and ending up with the narrow end on the top. Place crescents, with tips underneath, on cookie sheet.

Bake about 12 minutes or until golden brown.

    - Note: You can use two slices of American cheese and cut them into 4-strips each. Place one strip on each hot dog before you roll it in the crescent for Cheesy Dogs.

My mom would make me a hotdog and boiled/poached egg w/toast in the am's for breakky.

What about scrambling up eggs and serving with hotdogs or dice them into the eggs? I second the mac & cheese or weenies & beans thing. You could always serve it up with side of potato, boiled, baked, mashed, rice or chips?

With hamburgers we usually do the Salisbury steak option or I eat it on the side w/o bun anyhow with plenty of condiments and a side salad for dinner - very popular in the summer here.

my Mom used to bake hamburgers in the oven and then would pour a can of cream of mushroom soup, thinned out just a bit with milk over top and heat through. She served it with rice or potatoes. it is really good.

You can slice up the hotdogs and add them to ramen soup with some veggies for a hearty entree type soup. I will thaw premade hamburgers to use in other types of dishes. It is great when you need just a little ground beef for a recipe. Otherwise, I would probably do the salisbury steak option - that with gravy over mashed potatoes is one of my favorite meals.

Kids love the mac and cheese mixed........and I still have to fix it for myself once in awhile.......sort of a 'comfort food'......

I have also 'partially cooked' the hd in the micro then added it to a grilled cheese.
