Talking Frugality and my boyfriend (long, sorry)

I'm so proud of my boyfriend. Let me give you a little back story. We live in a small apartment with a tiny fridge/freezer. When I first moved in we did shopping once a week and usually spent 50-70 dollars and pretty much had little to nothing stockpiled or extra. But over the past year I've been able to start mini stock piles of certain things that will last us longer then a week. Now we go shopping about every 2 weeks and spend only between 30-50 dollars(depends if we're buying meats or not). Every once in a while he shocks me with frugal/stock pile ideas. One day we picked up rice because we were almost out and the bags were on sale for .77 cents (usually over a dollar each) so we bought 8 bags. LOL. I don't think we'll need rice for another 2-3 months. A couple days ago he comes to me and asks... "do you think we could buy one of those small chest freezers and put it in the kitchen?" I've wanted one but never thought about it here. I figured once we moved into a house we'd buy things like that cause we'd have more room. We're always picky at the store in the freezer section cause there is only so much we can pack into our tiny freezer at home. He's excited to go looking for a small chest freezer now so we can buy "more frozen veggies, meats, ice cream and have an ice basket". Plus other things we come across in the freezer section that are on really good sales. Jeez, I sure do love him.

Hello! You got me interested in researching this, and I found a wonderful site filled with fridge info that I never would have dreamed of. For one thing, I had no idea that over-packing a fridge could negatively impact its power-usage.
I can't post links yet (and for good reason, I know how annoying new-member-spammers are in forums) so if you Google the phrase "Keeping your food cold: Solutions to refrigeration when ..." it will be the first link. The site is called backwoodshome
I hope you get as much out of it as I did. I now have plans of revamping my fridge tomorrow, so thanks for the extra work-load, Rhayne! lol

He's a keeper and a great idea on the freezer. You can stockpile more, buy when on sale therefore saving more that can go towards your new home! A win - win situation!

I think it's so cute that he's so excited about buying a freezer, I just couldn't help but smile when I read it. And how great a relief it'll be for you to do a little more stockpiling That means less time shopping and more time with your honey

And you sound just as sweet as he does!
