Default I need a hug. Lots of hugs. Please!

Today I go into work great day...30 minutes after I get in managers have a meeting with everyone. My work is closing in 30 days. I can't believe it. A huge, popular grocery store is closing. My dream of being a cake decorator is shot right now. They said they are going to offer everyone a position at another store. Well the closest store is 45 minutes away from me, and the rest are in another state. I don't drive. Not only that but they cannot offer the same position we have now, unless its available, which my position is not. So if I stay I will most likely be cashiering which I can't STAND. But they will not let us know our option for 2 more weeks. Thanks for letting us have anxiety about it for the next two weeks. WAY TO GO MANAGEMENT!!!

I am so depressed. I was crying, and crying, and crying at work so I went home. I tried so hard to stop, for like 2 hours.

So not only does this blow, but I totally love the people I work with. My boss is awesome, we got along so well, and I love the girls I work with. I love everyone I work with.

And to TOP THINGS OFF, we are moving in a month, DH got a new car yesterday because his car was shot and I am an emotional wreck.

The funny thing is after telling us about the store, they said okay now everyone do what you normally do and pull yourself together. We need good service and blah blah, like they did not just tell us all that we are basically screwed.

I am gonna go lay down. I can barley see what I am typing my eyes hurt so bad.

    So much for my dream.

Well gee that just stinks!!! You will be in prayers. I worked for a small grocery store that did the same thing, told about 25 people they were closing, then exspected everyone to work. Half of the people walked out and other stayed for about a 1 week, they were down with only 4 employes working till they closed 2 weeks later. Personally i would try to get your license and see about maybe getting a job in the evening when hubby is off.

Sending prayers, aloha and hugs your way. Talk about a curve ball!! When you feel better, come back on and let's all talk about possibilities.

Well, at least you got notice and you can prepare for it. So many companies close these days and don't tell anyone until the last day, or let them show up to work and find the doors locked.

Are you going to be able to get unemployment benefits? Will you be considered 'let go' when they close, or will they say you quit if you don't accept a cashier job?

Ash - think of it this way - how much more devastated would you be if they told you the store was closing tonight after your shift ended? Be grateful that you were given 2 weeks notice and it was your own boss telling you. I know you're in shock now but start planning again - re-do your budget etc and look for a new job while you have time. If you play your cards right you could start your new job after the end of the 2nd week.

They will say that we quit if we don't take the other job because they are still offering us a job, even if its an hour or so away.

I don't want to be grateful. I want to be pissed and I am pissed. Either way, if they closed today or in 30 days it still sucks and it equally sucks. yeah I get a few more paychecks, but it still sucks and they still suck for it. I lot of people keep saying well you need to be grateful they did not close today...at this point I am so upset I really just don't care. (nothing against you, not trying to be mean to you if it sounds that way, I appreciate your post....just venting!)

Do you HAVE to move out right now? Can you stay for a while longer? Do you now have a car payment?

You need to get your drivers license.

This sucks. It's happening everywhere. It seems like you've been there long enough for unemployment. But you need to get your license.

Not sure what store you work for...
but here in NY...the P&C chain was just bought out by TOPS.
79 stores affected. Some will stay open, some will get closed.
The warehouse that employed 500 workers by itself...shut down. We have 2 stores in the closest city to us. One of them looks like it will stay open. The other store has not been told yet what the plans are for it yet. They have to talk to the owners of the buildings and work things out.

The thing is without my pay we can still afford what we need to afford. And yes, we HAVE to move out now. Dad is trying to be sympathetic but its not working for him or us living here. And yes, there is now a car payment.

I know I need to get my license (and I am going to when I get settled), but its not really going to help me right now in my situation. DH works 3rd shift so if I work 1 or 2 he can take me. But I do not want to drive over an hour to be a cashier. I won't do it.

And I understand its happening everywhere, and I symathise with those people but I am not trying to make my situation sound worse...it just kinda makes me feel crappy when people keep telling me well, its happening to everyone.

And unemployment is not an option unforuntially

Not so sure about that. I think you could fight that. Something about driving distance. 50 miles maybe. Might have to have an appeal but it might work. I'd definitely give it a shot. I wouldn't just drop it. Don't walk out.

I would never walk out. They said to us today, corporate they cannot fit everyone in the store that is close to here, so some people will be going to PA over various stores around there.

Don't quit...take it to the last day.
And I think you might be able to get unemployment also.
I think a longer distance might be considered a hardship.

I hope you can find something else soon! Maybe try at Walmart or another store that has a cake making area!
