I thoroughly enjoyed the opening ceremonies. The history of the Canadian Peoples and the land were brought across beautifully. The projection graphics were stunning and it was a shame that the 4th limb of the cauldron didn't pop up.

My only pet peeve was how many people chew gum with their mouths open. It just wants me to ask if they were born in a barn!

I also thought the pre-ceremony piece NBC did about the bonds between the USA and Canada was touching - I guess I'm a big softy, 'cause I was getting a little teary-eyed!

My maternal grandmother was a 'First People' from near Ottawa. She came to Watertown, NY, married and raised a family. During WWII, she went back to Canada for a family funeral, and was denied re-entry because she was not a citizen. Mind you, she thought she was - to the point of VOTING- but my mom recalled it was several weeks before she was allowed to come home. She became a citizen later during the war.

Love the connections that we have with Canada through FV - I was thinking about you all last night while watching the opening ceremonies - made them that more special!!

Ceashels - mahalo for your observation, I thought I was the only one who had a thing for barn style gum chewing!! Must admit that when I was growing up, we were not allowed to chew gum in public - only at home. In the overall scheme of things, I suppose it really doesn't matter - just looks crappy!!

You are so right about the gum - I never chew gum since I got a look at myself in a window reflection - looked like a cow chewing its cud - ick! I think if people could see what they look like, Wrigley's would go bankrupt!
