Default Ever have one of those weird moments?

My cousin wrote this morning to tell me about her weird experience today. She woke up, went down to the kitchen and found her hubby, her kids, and many of the neighborhood dads and their kids all having breakfast and the dads were discussing child raising. She had no idea her hubby was going to have an early morning impromptu and wondered if she was in an alternative universe.

Then I looked out my window and there was the National Guard, marching down my street, full uniform, helmets..... I wondered what they were looking for, wondered what the emergency was. They stopped in front of my house....... and began throwing snowballs at each other. Then they lined up and kept on marching.

Ever have one of these weird moments??

I've had many. One that stands out is having my home a migration pit stop for birds. You couldn't even see anything (I mean not one square inch of ground or trees) but birds. They were everywhere.

I've seen a lot of birds before, but this was far more than the average amount you see flying around or landing in a field during migration.

So surreal. I've had moments like that, this is the last one...
A couple of years ago I couldn't help but notice a huge flock of Robins in my yard I mean there were more than I've ever seen in one place, hundreds. Right after seeing them I found out that me dear neighbor, a lover of nature and fond of Robins had passed away. He was watching them too, just as he passed.

The birds would totally freak me out. We've had our trees and gutter and wires covered in birds before. I can't help but thinking of them as a bad omen, every time I see them, and I just have to stop whatever I'm doing and watch them until they go.

The National Guard snowball fight might push me over the edge a bit, as well.

I did think of it as a bad omen! It was amazing and yet felt like something terrible was about to happen. We stayed inside. We had plans to go out and no way was I going to try to make it to the car. They were there a long time. It was so loud with all the bird chatter, too.

    Here's another weird thing.

We lived on a lake and one day our dog had a big bone in its mouth that he picked up off the beach. I joked that it looked human and we tossed it into the trash. After trash day, I remembered the kids that drowned in the lake the year before and they didn't find their bodies. Gulp.

Then a while later, there were reports in the paper that they were slowly finding bones from the victims. I felt terrible thinking that what I tossed out probably was human.

My whole life is full of those.

We were leaving for vacation in 2 days. I looked out and saw a few bugs flying past the window, then thru the front yard, then more and more and more until there were hundreds. I yelled for my DH to come and see this. He said they were rose bugs. I said i didn't think so. This went on and on. I opened the glass part of the window and the buzzing was deafening. It sounded like rush hour traffic. W/in ten minutes 5000 or so honey bees had landed on my front yard tree. They were making changing formations. First a mound, then a beard. They stayed for 24 hours and then moved on. My DS snuck a video camera on a tripod underneath.
What a neat movie. We were tense though that it would stay and someone would get hurt because they were messing w/ them. Honeybees are protected and can't be killed. We called a beekeeper to come get them but they had moved on before he got there.

Some of this sounds like Hitchcock. Remember The Birds?

In 1989 i was living in Oshawa Ontario and I would always walk home from work(I know not safe). well that night i was suposie to work but changed shift with someone else.
that night at the time I would of been along that street. there was a guy and his girl friend argueing in a car. well this a** hole was in the car threw their baby out the window and For Gods blessings nobody ran over him/her. and had minor injuries at the hospital. I heard this on the news the next morning thinkin I wonder If i would of gotten to the child right away after it happened. well this a** hole I heard went to jail but didnt get enough time as far as I was concerned. The mother was distraught and never heard anything after that.
one of those moments Ill never forget.

I have the birds coming every spring and fall. Really does remind me of the movie, the birds. Cat of course loves it.

Also have a squirrel that likes to jump around my balcony. Mind you I am on the second floor. Has been doing it since it was a baby. I don't keep anything edible on the balcony. When it was a baby it would get scared and seemed stuck but the mother would always come around to help it down. Another thing the cat likes to watch.

Used to always have a praying mantis right outside my front door. It always seemed odd going outside and there it was, standing there on the wall next to my door.

Talking about weird moments and praying mantis, I saw one once that was giant. It was on a barn wall and was about 18 inches just in body length and around 3 inches width. It was really creepy. The thing is though, they are NOT supposed to be that big, it was like something out of sci fi. Totally weird and creepy, gives me the hebegeebees just thinking about it. The only two people who can vouch for my story (one of them my father) are both dead, so I rarely tell the story because no one believes that a praying mantis could be that massive.

Government experiment and one got lose??? LOL Totally creepy!

Not quite wierd like some of the others but...in 1994 here in Cali we had the Northridge earthquake. My Dh was working out of town in Oxnard and decided not to go in. Well at the exact time he should have been on the freeway at that exact spot the freeway collapsed. I am greatful for his laziness that day...lol! I think about that often how lucky we really were.
