Anyone else have a bad reaction to activia?
I am hoping that is what is going on with me and not some kind of infection. Anyone else have negative reaction to it? I think I might not go to work tomorrow, I will see if it gets better before tomorrow morning!

It is common when you start taking acidophilus/probiotics to have a bit of ...uh..."disturbance". The more of a disturbance the more you need it. Keep on it and limit your sugar and carbs for a few days.

Now there shouldn't be blood. If it is fresh blood, I might assume something to do with frequent trips to the bathroom. If it is anything other than TP distress, I'd call a dr.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. It isn't tp distress. I am going to stop eating activia for a few days and see if it clears up. It happened Sunday, and then today. Only a couple times, then everything was normal. I dunno, never had this before. I hope I don't have cdif or something. The blood is new. Funny, I just had samples done a few weeks ago because I have an ulcer, and no blood showed up then. I think it is just the activia. That is the only new thing I have been eating!
Thank you for the advice!!

I think you had best contact your DR.

I have heard first hand horrible experiences with the Activia brand b/c the sugars in the flavoured varieties negate the probiotics. If its the probiotics you're after - try plain unflavoured pro-bio yoghurt and go from there. You can add your own flavorings in ie maple syrup & fruit etc.
Of course - I'd wait to start up on the pro-bio yoghurts until after you've seen your dr about the bleeding issue. Yoghurt should not have that affect on anyone.
I hope you get it sorted out soon and feel better.2012: The Year Of The Purge!

Thanks for the link. I am sure that it is the activia, now. I bet the blood is from the upset it caused my stomach. I have always had issues if I don't eat enough fiber due to my busy schedule. I bet the activia was just too much for me with my stomach issues. If the bleeding comes back I will call my dr ASAP. He is awesome and no doubt will see me right away.
I couldn't quote the url because I supposedly only have 14 posts. My post count doesn't seem to be going up at all. Hmmm...

The blood could be internal hemorrhoids. They don't hurt like the external ones do, but they are a frequent cause of painless rectal bleeding.
If the blood were from higher up, say your stomach or small intestine, the stool would be tarry (sorry, knowledge is power).
You definitely should not ignore this, please let your MD or NP know.

DS11 had a really bad stomach reaction to a probiotic yogurt, so it's definitely not just you.
I'd get that checked out and cross the yogurt off your purchasing list for the future. I don't think that it's for everyone. Some people have bad reactions to just about every food.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

this yogurt had me examining the speckles on the floor and making friends with the restroom attendant in the town square in york england. right next to marks and spencer.
spent the entire afternoon!11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

Well, I had every intention of going to work this morning. I haven't missed a day from sickness in quite awhile. So, I got dressed, did my hair, started eating breakfast....CRAMPS. I don't dare try to go to work. I don't think residents want me running out of their room in the middle of patient care, or worse-not making it in time!!
Maybe it will be nothing, but I am not taking any chances!! Too bad I have no pto time left.
Oh well, I guess activia turned out to be a painful and expensive lesson for me.
Thank you to everyone that answered. I was embarrassed to ask, but I am glad I did. Maybe they should have a disclaimer on their commercials. Warning-may cause severe intestinal problems for many individuals. I think I will try calling them and giving them a piece of my mind.
